The end of the season in LaLiga Santander, Serie A and Ligue 1 certified what was an open secret: Erling Haaland is the winner of the 2022-23 edition of the Golden Boot, the tournament with which the ESM (European Sports Magazines), of which MARCA is a member, recognises the best goalscorer in Europe.

The Manchester City No.9 succeeds Robert Lewandowski, winner in the last two years.

The 22-year-old Norwegian striker has had no competition since mid-season, when he overtook his compatriot Amahl Pellegrino (Bodo/Glimt), who finally finished 18th with 25 goals and 37.5 points.

Haaland closed the season as the undisputed leader. His 36 goals (72 points) in Premier League play took him 12 points clear of Harry Kane and smashed the all-time Premier League record, held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole with 34 goals. The Tottenham striker ended the season with 30 goals (60 points).

Here's how the race for the Golden Boot has ended

  1. Erling Braut Haaland (Manchester City) --> 36 goals x 2 = 72 points
  2. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) --> 30 x 2 = 60
  3. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) --> 29 x 2 = 58
  4. Alexandre Lacazette (Olympique Lyon) --> 27 x 2 = 54
  5. Victor Osimhen (Napoli) --> 26 x 2 = 52
  6. Jonathan David (Lille) --> 24 x 2 = 48
  7. Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona) --> 23 x 2 = 46
  8. Enner Valencia (Fenerbahce) --> 29 x 1,5 = 43,5
  9. Folarin Balogun (Stade de Reims) --> 21 x 2 = 42
  10. Lautaro Martinez (Inter) --> 21 x 2 = 42
  11. Lois Openda (RC Lens) --> 21 x 2 = 42

The podium is completed by Kylian Mbappe. The PSG star has been crowned 'pichichi' of Ligue 1 for the fifth time at the age of 24. His 29 goals have given him a total of 58 points.

One step behind is Alexandre Lacazette (27 goals/54 points) and Victor Osimhen (26 goals/52 points).

The first LaLiga Santander representative appears in seventh place: Lewandowski. The Barcelona striker closes his first year in Spain as 'pichichi' with 23 goals (46 points).

The first Spaniard is Joselu Mato. The Espanyol player, who was unable to prevent his team's relegation to the second division, finished the season with 16 goals (32 points), which puts him in 27th place in the Golden Boot, on par with Lionel Messi (PSG), Boulaye Dia (Salernitana), Niclas Fullkrug (Werder Bremen), Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) and the surprising Rayan Philippe (FC Swift Hesperange).
