Not finished yet! Manchester United make signing striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund 'a PRIORITY next summer'... despite their huge £385,000 a week outlay to bring back 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Manchester United bolstered their attack by re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo
  • That move is reportedly not going to affect any future deal for Erling Haaland
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with the young striker while he was Molde boss
  • Haaland has stayed at Borussia Dortmund but has a release clause next summer

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United will reportedly not impact the Old Trafford side's 'priority' pursuit of Erling Haaland next summer.

Haaland is one of the most wanted players in world football and has interest from Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as United.

ESPN report that the £19.8million move for Ronaldo, along with his £385,000-per-week, two year contract at the club, will not have any bearing on a pursuit of Haaland.

The Norwegian striker, who is managed by Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola, sees a release clause in the region of €75m (£64m) become active in his contract at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Ronaldo is far and away the greatest earner in Manchester United's dressing room and with Haaland, who has three years remaining on his current deal, such an in demand player, he would be capable of demanding huge personal terms from his next club.

Ronaldo adds to United's many attacking options - which include Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani - but the report details that his arrival has 'not changed' the long-term plan to sign Haaland.

United pursued Haaland prior to him joining Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer meeting a player he worked with while boss at Norwegian side Molde.

Despite that deal not working it is reported that Solskjaer's relationship with the striker remains unaffected.

Haaland is known to be a big fan of Ronaldo and United may well use the chance for him to work alongside an idol as part of their pitch.

Many strikers are expected to be aggressively pursued next summer with Kylian Mbappe's contract expiring at Paris Saint-Germain, Harry Kane another year into his Tottenham deal amid interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich looking at life after Robert Lewandowski.

But in a boost to United and other potential suitors outside of Germany, it appears Bayern will not be Haaland's next landing spot.

Ex-Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that his former club are powerless to stopping Haaland seeking a new challenge abroad when his time at Borussia Dortmund comes to an end.

The Bundesliga champions have been strongly linked with Haaland and have a history of luring Dortmund's best players away, but the former Allianz Arena chief believes the young talent's future lies outside of Germany.

'He has become an absolute figurehead in the league,' he told Sport Bild.

'But I'm afraid he won't be staying in the Bundesliga. The numbers that are circulating show that it's difficult to keep him in Germany. I assume that his future lies abroad.'

Haaland has been a revelation in Germany having bagged an impressive 63 goals in 64 appearances. He has also provided 18 assists and won the German Cup last season.
