Prince William's appearance in the preview of the new episode of The Reluctant Traveler has been much discussed.
The Prince of Wales opened up to Eugene Levy in the episode titled "Living the Royal Life in the U.K." and revealed an unexpected connection with actor Tom Hanks.
William and Hanks, fans
During the conversation, the heir to the throne discussed various topics, but without a doubt, one of the most striking was the comparison he made with Tom Hanks.
The truth is that the father of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Wales, born in 2013, 2015, and 2018, respectively, shares several interests with them. Williams was talking about this when he revealed that soccer is one of his passions:
"I'm a football fan. I support Aston Villa, have you heard of them? Tom Hanks is a big fan," the 43-year-old prince told Levy.
The Hollywood star is indeed a fan of this Premier League team, but what caught William's attention was the story behind Hanks' fanaticism:
"I love the story that Tom tells about why he suddenly supported Aston Villa -because when he was looking for a team to support, he saw the words 'Aston Villa' and thought that sounded quite like a sunshine-y, nice, 'villa' place to go," he began explaining. "When, actually, if he turns up to Birmingham, it's not that sunshine."
The 69-year-old actor confirmed that this story is true in 2015 on The Graham Norton Show and pointed out that although he now knows that the weather is not as he imagined, he remains an Aston Villa fan.
As for his own search for a club to support, William confessed that he wanted to go against the grain, as his friends supported Manchester United or Chelsea: "I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments," he said.
He also shared his experience after attending the Bolton vs. Aston Villa FA Cup match in 2000 with some friends: "I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time," the Prince of Wales recounted. "It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie, and I really felt that there was something I could connect with."
The episode "Living the Royal Life in the U.K." will premiere on Friday, October 3, on Apple TV+.
