Jonathan Barnett, Gareth Bale's famous agent and for years recognised as one of the most influential agents in international football, is being investigated by police in Britain for allegedly raping and torturing a woman subjected to sexual exploitation.
In 2019, Forbes named Barnett the best agent in the world after negotiating 1.179 billion euros in transfers and player contracts.

Barnett (75) denies the allegations and, according to The Telegraph, admitted to paying the woman in September 2021 to keep quiet after their "consensual personal relationship".

In the latest court documents filed by his lawyers, the super-agent claims that she threatened to reveal details unless she was paid.
"When my relationship with the claimant ended, she threatened to disclose it publicly. As a result of these threats, I paid the claimant over a number of years, eventually paying her well in excess of 1 million euros... all payments were made by me in England," Barnett told a court.
The complainant claims that Jonathan Barnett raped her more than 39 times.
The complainant, identified only as Jane Doe, claims that Barnett kept her as a sex slave for six years and raped her more than 39 times.
In a civil lawsuit filed in court, the complainant accuses the former officer of having transferred her from Australia to the United Kingdom in 2017 under false promises of humanitarian aid.
The woman claims she was deprived of her liberty for six years and subjected to physical assaults, isolation and degrading conditions including deprivation of water, food and hygiene.
In July 2025, Jonatha Barnett was formally charged with extremely serious offences, including human trafficking, torture and rape, according to judicial sources.
