Mauricio Pochettino reveals his future and addresses rumors linking him with Tottenham

A few months before the World Cup, Mauricio Pochettino was again linked with the Tottenham Hotspur bench, but the Argentine coach made it clear that his focus is on the US men's national team and not on an eventual return to north London.

The strategist, who is currently in charge of the US team after taking over in September 2024, downplayed reports linking him as a possible permanent replacement following the departure of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor's interim spell.

Speaking to Radiogaceta de los Deportes, Pochettino was clear:

There are always rumours, I'm always linked with other clubs. With Tottenham, just as at the time I was linked with Espanyol, or with other clubs

The weight of his past in London

Pochettino left a deep mark on Tottenham. Under his leadership, the club reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2019 and was Premier League runner-up a season earlier, consolidating one of the most competitive cycles in the club's recent history.

Despite leaving in 2019 in the midst of a negative run, his figure is still highly valued by the "Spurs" fans. Even his subsequent spell at Chelsea FC in the 2023-24 season did not weaken the affection he still enjoys from some of the fans.

Since leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the coach also managed Paris Saint-Germain, expanding his international experience before taking on the challenge with the United States.

The Argentine coach recalled that his contract with the U.S. national team ends after the World Cup, which leaves the door open for a future return to club soccer.

According to reports in the British press, so far there has been no formal or informal contact between Pochettino and Tottenham for a possible return in the summer.

The coach remains based in England, a detail that could influence his future, although for now his priority is to lead the United States in a World Cup that will be played at home and represents one of the biggest challenges of his career.
