The brutal longevity of Cristiano Ronaldo

Actualizado 07/09/2021 - 22:25

Cristiano Ronaldo's career needs very little said about it at this point, however his longevity on the field is like something we've rarely seen before, and this has actually been highlighted by the links he has to those who have coached him.

After bursting onto the scene as a teenager with Manchester United in 2003, Ronaldo would go onto be a teammate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as well as an opponent of Andrea Pirlo and Zinedine Zidane.

He faced Zidane at the 2006 World Cup with Portugal, whilst met with Pirlo's AC Milan in the Champions League with Manchester United. However, once all those aforementioned players had retired, they would all end up coaching him at club level.

Zidane at Real Madrid, Pirlo at Juventus and now Solskjaer at Old Trafford, with his second debut with Manchester United set to come in Saturday's clash with Newcastle United.

Tuesday was Ronaldo's first day back training in Manchester since he departed the club in 2009, and it was at the Carrington training facility that he met with his new coach.

At 36 years old, Ronaldo is yet to show any signs of slowing down or nearing retirement, although he does now play almost exclusively as a centre-forward.
