DC United representatives met with Mesut Özil - Move in January 2021?

DC United representatives have met with Mesut Özil's agents in London, according to a report by Steven Goff from the Washington Post. According to Goff, however, the winter of 2021 will be the earliest the Arsenal star would be willing to move to Major League Soccer.

Özil has been frequently linked with a move to MLS in recent months. Backed by David Beckham, Inter Miami CF was one possible destination. Meanwhile, DC United have also been linked with Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modrić. 

The former German national team star has struggled at times at Arsenal this season but has featured more frequently under new head coach Mikel Arteta. The 2014 World Cup winner has featured in all but one of Arsenal's last 14 Premier League games (one assist).

At the same time, Özil has been involved in just 3% of his club's goals this season. The native of Gelsenkirchen is under contract until the summer of 2021.
