The French striker was disappointed to miss out on The Best to Lionel Messi

Karim Benzema seems to disagree with the final result of The Best award, which went to Leo Messi, winner of the 2022 World Cup, where he scored seven goals and provided two assists.

The Argentine led his national team to their third World Cup. The Madrid forward believes he deserved the award given what he posted on Instagram -- a screenshot from another account in which he pointed out everything he had won in 2022.

Benzema, the current Ballon d'Or winner, was unable to beat Messi to The Best despite winning the Spanish league, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup and European Super Cup last season. He scored 44 goals and 15 assists last term, but added together for the whole of 2022, he has 63 goals and 23 assists.

In Madrid, the fact that Messi was given The Best award was very upsetting, to the point that David Alaba was insulted on social media for having voted for the Argentina captain.

The Madrid defender even had to explain his vote on social media. "In the wake of the FIFA The Best awards, the Austrian national team decided the votes for this award as a team, not just me.

"Anyone in the squad was entitled to vote and that's how we proceeded. Everyone knows, and especially Karim, how much I admire him and his performances. And I have already said on several occasions that for me he is the best striker in the world; that he still is. No doubt about it."
