Life had been relatively straightforward for Christophe Galtier since arriving as Paris Saint-Germain's coach, with his forward line winning him his early matches in charge with ease.

However, the visit of Monaco to the Parc des Princes has proven to be the former Nice coach's first stumbling block as his side struggled to draw 1-1 on Sunday evening.

Blessed once again to be able to start Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack, Galtier also handed a debut to Renato Sanches alongside Marco Verratti in midfield.

In truth it was a match where PSG never really found any rhythm, despite having 67 percent possession of the ball.

Monaco, while no longer boasting the individual talent of a few years ago, were still a handful on the counter attack and they took a shock lead after 20 minutes.

Kevin Volland was the scorer as Monaco took advantage of PSG giving the ball away. Aleksandr Golovin played a fine through pass between Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos, however Volland got there first and hammered the ball beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG rattled the post at the end of the first half, with Messi beating the goalkeeper with a shot, however Mbappe then hit the opposite post with the rebound.

It was an event which seemed to suggest that it wouldn't be PSG's night, however they were given a reprieve 20 minutes from time.

There was a penalty awarded for a foul on Neymar, which was checked and confirmed by VAR. The Brazilian then stepped up to convert the spot kick, yet that was as much as the hosts could take from the match.
