Paris Saint-Germain's first defeat in Ligue 1, came at the start of 2023 with a 3-1 reverse against Lens, with the result sparking a mini-crisis at the Parc des Princes. Despite this, PSG remain four points clear of Lens at the top of the table.
Christophe Galtier couldn't hide his annoyance at the end of the game.
"It's not the defeat that bothers me, but the way we conceded the goals, especially the first one. We knew they were very strong in transition, but we didn't respect our positions and conceded the second. It's the first time I've seen my team so disorganized," Galtier confirmed.
Sergio Ramos 'paid the price' for the stumble against Lens. The former Sevilla and Real Madrid player put an end to his talismanic status: he never knew what it was like to lose for PSG. In 34 matches he had won 27 and drawn seven.
However, he was the one who was singled out, along with his teammate Marquinhos, for the defeat at the Bollaert-Delelis. L'Equipe was very harsh on both of them, especially Ramos, who received the lowest mark for PSG, along with Carlos Soler: 3/10.
"He was in trouble in all the opposing transitions. He clearly failed on Lens' second goal and was passive in the third goal, weighed down by Fabian Ruiz's lost ball. He didn't shine in his surges forward or in the construction of the game," noted 'L'Equipe.
L'Equipe also highlighted Ramos' "lack of pace" and left a question mark over the future.
"His performance against Lens calls into question his ability to be decisive in matches at the highest level. With Kimpembe injured, there are few solutions. Perhaps an extra center-back wouldn't have gone amiss."
Galtier changed the position of Marquinhos and Ramos
Marquinhos also took his share of the blame in the L'Equipe report.
"The block wasn't very compact, but the defeat can be explained by the ineffectiveness of the center-backs. Both struggled against Lens' pressing," the ratings read.
In fact, Galtier reversed the positions of Marquinhos and Ramos - the Spaniard moved to the left - at half-time.
"Despite his goal against Strasbourg, the Brazilian is not very composed. It's as if his clearance in the Croatia goal is still haunting him. Openda made him suffer from the second minute," L'Equipe read.
