Jordan Henderson will reportedly miss three weeks of action after suffering a hamstring injury in Liverpool's victory against Newcastle last week.

The 32-year-old was forced off in the 71st minute of their 2-1 victory over the Magpies on Wednesday last week and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp described the injury as 'serious' after the match.

But The Athletic claim the midfielder underwent a scan on Friday which confirmed he has only suffered a minor strain and is therefore expected to be out for weeks rather than months.

The Reds captain is however still expected to miss Premier League fixtures against Wolves and Chelsea and Champions League matches against Napoli and Ajax.

But the report claims he is hopeful of returning in time for England's matches in the Nations League against Germany and Italy later this month, but that returning after the international break for the Reds against Brighton also cannot be ruled out.

Henderson has started all but one of his five Premier League appearances so far this season, but has not played the full 90 minutes since the 2-2 draw at Fulham on the opening weekend.

He however was forced to sit out out Liverpool's Merseyside derby stalemate against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday following his injury during the week.

Klopp has also been without Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones for various parts of the the 2022-2023 Premier League campaign so far.

However, the same outlet report Spain midfielder Thiago - who went off injured at Fulham - was back in training at Kirkby on Monday morning ahead of their opening Champions League game against Napoli on Wednesday.

Liverpool also eased their midfield concerns by signing Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan on deadline day, with the club having the option to make the move permanent for £32million.

Fellow summer signing Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones however remain doubts, with the former going off in the derby with a dead leg.
