'All these people saying this is an end of a cycle, I am not having that at all': Michael Owen insists Liverpool WILL return to their best form under Jurgen Klopp after dreadful start to the season

  • Michael Owen believes that Jurgen Klopp can turn Liverpool's season around
  • The Reds have struggled to play at their best consistently during this campaign
  • Liverpool are currently 9th in the Premier League losing their last two games

Micheal Owen has insisted that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will turn things around at the club after their inconsistent start to this season.

Last season's Premier League runners-up have not fully been themselves this campaign domestically.

After shock defeats to relegation candidates, Leeds and Nottingham Forest wither side of a 3-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League, the Reds are currently languishing in 9th place in the Premier League table.

With Manchester City and Arsenal impressing with their battle at the top of the table, questions have arisen over Klopp and his ability to manage Liverpool.

During his tenure at Borussia Dortmund, the German had great success until his seventh season, when his side struggled to reach their expected level of performance.

And critics have been keen to point out the similarity of timing as Klopp is in his seventh season with Liverpool.

However, former Liverpool striker Owen believes that there are plenty of reasons that the club aren't at their best and that it can be corrected.

Speaking before Liverpool's Champions League fixture against Napoli, he told BT Sports: 'I am very confident [Klopp can turn things around], Liverpool went through a rancid run in the covid hit season, they couldn't win a game at home in half a dozen and couldn't win a game it seemed.

'This season is not one of those when they are losing all the time, they battered Bournemouth 9-0, Rangers 7-1 and beat Man City, who everyone thinks is the best team in the world in a brilliant game.

The German has been at Liverpool for seven years, the same period he spent at Dortmund

'They are showing signs that they are still the team of old, but they are a little bit inconsistent at times, but I can definitely see them coming back.

'All these people saying this is an end of a cycle, I am not having that at all.

'Milner is playing as good as he has for years, Henderson is getting on okay but all the rest of them are still brilliant and will be for a few more years.'
