'No one respects me, and it does p*** me off': Paddy Pimblett claims 'breakout' win over Jared Gordon will prove doubters wrong at UFC 282

  • Paddy Pimblett takes on Jared Gordon in the co-main event of UFC 282
  • Liverpool native remains undefeated in the UFC from three fights so far
  • He is irritated that some fans 'are not taking him for real' and 'don't respect him'
  • Pimblett says his clash with Gordon will be his 'breakout' display this weekend

Paddy Pimblett has a huge amount of interest around him and is unbeaten in three UFC fights, but still feels a lack of respect.

The Liverpool fighter features on the co-main event of UFC 282 this Saturday night against Jared Gordon in his toughest test to date.

Despite his burgeoning career, the 27-year-old still feels there should be more respect coming his way.

He said: 'They're not [taking me seriously]. It's cheeky. People still aren't taking me for real. No one respects me, and it does p*** me off.

'But I've just got to get on with that. People just don't respect the come up. Simple as.

'This is going to be my breakout performance. People are going to see the improvements that I've made over the last 15 months since I signed with the UFC. You're going to see.'

Pimblett has finished Luigi Vendramini, Kazula Vargas and Jordan Leavitt in his first three outings for the UFC.

Some have criticised those match-ups, wanting to see him fight a higher calibre opponent, but Pimblett give that argument short shrift.

He went on: 'Every one of my past opponents, people will be like, "He's not good, he's not good,". I personally think my best opponent was my debut, Luigi Vendramini. He gets a bad rap. The only fights that he lost, he lost a majority decision to Fares Ziam.

'He lost his debut at welterweight, and then I beat him but that's me. People say because he got cut. Yeah, [Kazula] Vargas wasn't the best, he wasn't.

Pimblett has enjoyed a stellar year so far with two victories, both finishes, including this one over Jordan Leavitt back in July at the O2 Arena

'Jordan Leavitt's very good. No one had ever finished him. Everyone was talking about Claudio Puelles. He's f****** s*** as well. He couldn't finish him but everyone was saying he would beat me and I went and finished Leavitt on one of my worst nights.

'When I teamed up with a lot of s*** going on behind the scenes, and I still finished him in the second round. I'm disappointed in that performance just like I was with the Vargas one. I don't think I've put a good performance in since my debut and that wasn't even that good.'

Gordon should provide a step up in class and give Pimblett further legitimacy if he wins. The American is 19-5 and has faced the likes of Charles Oliveira before. If 'The Baddy' can overcome this test, a top 15 match-up is likely to be next.
