Chelsea have taken action after their mascot was left alone on the pitch at Anfield ahead of their game against Liverpool.

The Blues were heavily criticised online following the incident, with the mascot having been left unattended as You'll Never Walk Alone was played before the game.

As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea officials have contacted the mascot's family and have invited him to be mascot again in the future.

Chelsea have also blamed Liverpool for the incident, saying that it was the job of the home team's club co-ordinator to take care of both mascots. Each Premier League club has their own co-ordinator who looks after the mascots on home matchdays.

The mascot was left confused by the incident, with only a photographer near him.

It was a bad night all round for Chelsea, with Liverpool running out 4-1 winners.

Diogo Jota put Liverpool in front, with talented youngster Conor Bradley making it 2-0.

Dominik Szoboszlai added a third before Christopher Nkunku temporarily reduced the deficit for Chelsea.

However, Luis Diaz then scored to restore Liverpool's three-goal lead.
