A social media post has garnered plenty of interest after fans were asked to reply with football facts that sound fake, and hundreds got involved to show off their incredible knowledge.

The post by the X account @FootyJustin_ read: 'Quote this tweet with football facts that sound fake but is actually TRUE,' and it did not take long for supporters to respond.

A remarkable Jose Mourinho statistic immediately caught the eye as one fan wrote: 'Jose Mourinho went nine years without losing a home game.'

Unbelievably, this is true, with the Portuguese boss losing at home to Beira Mar when in charge of Porto in 2002, and then not tasting defeat on his own patch again until Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 by Sporting Gijon in 2011.

His unbeaten home league record lasted 150 matches, and he did not lose a single top flight game at Stamford Bridge during his first spell at Chelsea.

It was not just matters on the pitch that supporters pointed out, with one bringing up a crazy football link between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sir Alex Ferguson.

'Trent Alexander Arnold’s grandmother was Sir Alex Ferguson’s first girlfriend,' they posted.

Ferguson confirmed this in his autobiography, describing Alexander-Arnold's gran, Doreen Carling, as his 'first steady girlfriend'.

They were together for 18 months when they were teenagers before breaking up, and the iconic former Manchester United boss went on to marry his wife, Cathy, in 1966. Cathy sadly passed away in October 2023 at the age of 84.

Sticking with Alexander-Arnold, and the right back played a crucial role in Liverpool's 2019 Champions League triumph, with the Reds beating Tottenham in the final in Madrid.

Looking at Liverpool's starting line-up in the Spanish capital, it appears their strongest side on paper, but astonishingly, that final is the only time they all started a game together.

This was referenced by one fan who wrote: 'The starting 11 Liverpool used in the 2019 Champions league cup final was on paper their best 11… They had never been able to use that 11 before the final due to injuries and never again used it since.'

That seems hard to believe, as Liverpool's XI that night was Alisson in goal, Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson at the back, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield and Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino up front - all players that have flourished under Jurgen Klopp. Yet that fact is absolutely spot on.

More comments piled in, including one on French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

'Despite playing in La Liga for 14 years, Antoine Griezmann has never won the league,' one post read.

Griezmann has played for Atletico Madrid and Barcelona over the last decade, who have won six LaLiga titles between them since 2014, but Griezmann has never been at the right club at the right time to lift the trophy.

Speaking of world-class players, that brings us on to Didier Drogba.

The former Chelsea star had a wonderful record in finals during his career, but his goalscoring numbers were not so impressive across the course of a full campaign.

'Didier Drogba averaged 11 goals a season throughout his premier league career,' a fan highlighted.

Drogba is remembered as one of the great Premier League strikers, but only netted 104 league goals in nine years at Chelsea, despite scoring 29 in one season in 2009-10 to win the Golden Boot.

Finally, we end on under-fire United manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman has been widely criticised this season after a disappointing campaign that has seen the Red Devils crash out of Europe and lose nine of their opening 23 league games.

However, one particular statistic suggests he is not doing all that badly at Old Trafford.

'Erik ten Hag currently has the highest win percentage of any permanent Manchester United manager in history at 61.1%,' said one fan.

Ten Hag has won 58 of his 95 matches at the helm, placing him above 13-time Premier League winner Ferguson, who claimed 895 victories in his 1,500 games on the touchline for a win rate of 59.7 per cent.
