Liverpool's academy enforces a stringent set of regulations for its young players, as revealed by academy director Alex Inglethorpe.

These guidelines encompass a wage limit, a peculiar car policy, and the temporary confiscation of phones during training hours.

Under these rules, player salaries are capped at £50,000 per year. Additionally, a 'car clause' mandates that players' vehicles must not exceed an engine size of 1.3 litres.

Furthermore, players are required to surrender their phones upon arrival at the academy at 8:30 am, only to have them returned at the end of the day.

In an interview with Jamie Carragher for The Telegraph, explaining the rationale behind these measures, Inglethorpe emphasised both safety concerns and the desire to instill discipline and focus among the players.

'It is a safety thing as much as anything,' Inglethorpe said.

'I don't want boys who have just passed their test with these big chunks of metal, but I was also fed up seeing a car park full of Range Rovers. If anyone turns up with one of them, they are parking it next door.

'We have a pay structure which is fairly old-fashioned. We give them jobs to do. We tell them to hand their phone over at 8.30am and give them back before they go home.

Inglethorpe cited examples like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones, who embody the ethos fostered by these rules. Both players, now integral to the senior squad, exemplify humility and dedication, traits that were nurtured during their time in the academy.

Inglethorpe points out the supportive role played by senior players like Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, and James Milner in guiding the younger talents.

Alexander-Arnold, in particular, is highlighted for his modesty and commitment, qualities that have endeared him to his peers and paved the way for his leadership role as vice-captain.

'There was no flash watch with Trent. I remember how he drove the same car for years. He'd wear the same tracksuit. As soon as he made the step up, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and James Milner invested time and effort to help him. It was the same for Curtis [Jones].' Inglethorpe added.

The success stories of Alexander-Arnold and Jones are complemented by the emergence of new talent from the academy, including Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley.

Additionally, a cohort of teenagers, such as James McConnell, Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, Luke Chambers, Kaide Gordon, Stefan Bajcetic, Calum Scanlon, and Jayden Danns, have all made appearances for the first team, indicating the effectiveness of Liverpool's youth development system.
