Jordan Pickford had a rude awakening after leaving the pitch at half-time of England's 3-0 win over Bosnia, when he mistakenly entered the opposition dressing room.

The former Sunderland youngster was playing for the Three Lions at the home of his old rivals - St James' Park - and it appears he was still feeling like a member of the opposition when he departed for the interval.

According to Channel 4 commentator Steve Bower, the Everton goalkeeper wondered into the away dressing room, presumably, to find a collection of puzzled Bosnian faces.

Gareth Southgate's side had just played out a pretty drab 45 minutes in their penultimate fixture before their European Championship campaign begins against Serbia on June 16.

The Three Lions were much improved after the break and eventually broke the deadlock through Cole Palmer's penalty on the hour.

On an experimental night, the England boss saw impressive performances from the likes of Eberechi Eze, Conor Gallagher and Adam Wharton - who are all in danger of missing the 26-man cut on Friday.

‘Of course, it’s a difficult decision for us,' Southgate said after the win.

‘A team that didn’t have many caps when we started, it showed people feel comfortable in an England shirt pretty quickly which was lovely to see.

'It is a decision where we understand the significance for all of the players. So we are giving it the respect and consideration it deserves to make fair, right decisions.

‘Of course it is always going to be subjective and we have to balance what we need in every area of the pitch as well so that is the added complication.

'It is not just getting the best individuals in, there is a positional element to that as well. But we have really good options and we came through the game without any physical issues.'

As for Pickford, he was mainly on a watching brief for the entirety of the game. The visitors could only muster one shot, which was deflected away for a corner kick in the first half.
