Manchester United's difficult start to the season continued on Sunday afternoon as they were convincingly beaten by rivals Liverpool.

Luis Diaz scored twice and Mohamed Salah netted at Old Trafford again as the United players were booed off the pitch on the back of their second defeat in three games at the start of the season.

Casemiro was hooked at half time by Erik ten Hag after being at fault for the first two goals, while Marcus Rashford was also jeered by fans in attendance for his performance.

For Liverpool, however, it was a third win from three under Arne Slot, and they will go into the international break in high spirits following their impressive start to the campaign.

Mail Sport's LEWIS STEELE was at Old Trafford to rate the Liverpool players.

Alisson Becker - 7

Big save to deny Joshua Zirkzee from point-blank range on 63 minutes to prevent any possibility of a comeback. Several other regulation stops, too, and was quick off his line to mop up when Casemiro set Marcus Rashford through in the first half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.5

Skipped past by Diogo Dalot in the first minute to get the crowd roaring but did not put a foot wrong after that. Brilliant passing and an attacking threat throughout. Unlucky to have a goal ruled out after a nice finish.

Ibrahima Konate - 7

Bullied Zirkzee throughout on what was a dismal first start for the Dutch No 9. Made several vital interceptions and was a figure of confidence at the back for United.

Virgil van Dijk - 7

A captain's performance as he stuck up for team-mate Domink Szoboszlai when he was on the end of a nasty tackle from Lisandro Martinez. Dutchman consistently mopped up and won the ball high up the pitch several times to start attacks.

Andy Robertson - 7

Strong in duels against Alejandro Garnacho, who did not have a sniff all day. Got forward well and supplemented Diaz on the left.

Ryan Gravenberch - 8.5 (MOTM)

Who needs a new No 6? This was an all-action display on what was an imperious afternoon for Gravenberch. Slot trusts him completely and the Dutchman is playing with confidence. He made key interceptions, glided through the midfield at ease and rarely lost possession. Excellent.

Alexis Mac Allister - 7

Played slightly deeper than usual and put in a solid shift off the ball. Skipped past Casemiro several times in the first half.

Mohamed Salah - 8

That's 10 goals on his last seven trips to Old Trafford. Simply sublime start to the season for Salah, even though his strike here was helped by awful positioning from goalkeeper Andre Onana. Looks sharper than ever and not showing his age at all yet. The difference-maker.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 8

Dubbed 'unprofessional' by Gary Neville for taking an extra touch when he should have made it 4-0 late on. Really was not that deep. Otherwise, this was an outstanding performance from Szoboszlai. Never stopped running and has matched his assist tally from last season already.

Luis Diaz - 8.5

If he could add end product to his game, he could be one of the best forwards in the Premier League and finally replace Sadio Mane's clinicality. On the evidence of this season, that prolific nature is coming. Two great goals here after a man-of-the-match display last Sunday.

Diogo Jota - 7

A slightly more quiet evening for Jota after two solid performances to start the season but still played his part, mainly off the ball with great pressing.

Substitutes

Cody Gakpo (for Diaz, 66) - 6.5

Conor Bradley (for Alexander-Arnold, 75) - 6.5

Darwin Nunez (for Jota, 75) - 6

Kostas Tsimikas (for Robertson, 83) - N/A
