The north London derby awaits, there are THREE live games on Saturday - and the Man United saga continues! 10 reasons why we can't wait for the Premier League to return

The Premier League is back in a matter of days following the two-week interval for the comeback of international action.

It felt as though the new season was just getting into the swing of things when it paused for the likes of England and more to return, but Lee Carsley has debuted and fans can now look forward to club football again.

And it's back with a bang on Saturday, with eight games taking place and two to be played on Sunday, including the north London derby.

But there are a number of other areas to keep an eye on too, with all 20 teams looking to either build on their starts to the season or hit the ground running after difficult beginnings.

Ahead of the comeback, Mail Sport looks at 10 reasons why we can't wait for the Premier League to return.

The transfer window slammed shut towards the end of August - on Friday August 30 to be exact - meaning any players that were signed in the last couple of days struggled to feature that weekend.

We saw the likes of Jadon Sancho and Manuel Ugarte paraded around the pitches of their respective new sides, and some of those who moved have been training with their clubs over the break.

The likes of Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Federico Chiesa are likely to be involved in their respective squads this weekend, and all eyes will be on their performances following summer moves.

Can Sancho revitalise his career in blue? Will Sterling get back to his best under Mikel Arteta? Where does Chiesa fit in at Liverpool? All those questions could be answered over the next few days.

Also set to be involved for their new sides are the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Eddie Nketiah (both Crystal Palace), Reiss Nelson (Fulham) and James Ward-Prowse (Nottingham Forest).

The north London derby

It's been a mixed start to the campaign for both Arsenal and Tottenham. The Gunners have taken 10 points from their first three matches, drawing with Brighton last time out, while Ange Postecoglou's side have four.

The Brighton game and the two weeks following it have left reasons to be worried for Arsenal fans, however. Declan Rice's now infamous red card already put a spanner in the works in terms of his suspension for this match, while captain and fellow midfielder Martin Odegaard picked up an injury on international duty and is expected to miss the rest of September.

Couple that with Mikel Merino's injury and Riccardo Calafiori getting hurt on international duty, and Arteta's side are light. Time will tell what the Spaniard can and does do in terms of a solution.

That means Tottenham will smell blood. Dominic Solanke remains a doubt in terms of their own injury issues, and Micky van De Ven could also be out. But, after defeat by Newcastle last time out, they will be keen to bounce back.

The fact it's a derby will add a bit of bite to the game, but the points are important too. It promises to be a match to catch the eye.

Three live games on Saturday

Saturday not only brings the return of football, but three lives games will be broadcast on the day.

It will provide the perfect opportunity for fans to take their favourite spots on the sofa for around 10 hours to watch Southampton against Manchester United at 12:30pm on TNT Sports, perhaps Soccer Saturday for the 3pms, then over to Aston Villa versus Everton at 5:30pm and Bournemouth against Chelsea at 8pm, both on Sky.

Both of Sunday's games will then be broadcast too - highlighted by the derby - with the weekend rounded off by Wolves versus Newcastle at 4:30pm.

Can Arne Slot keep up his perfect record?

This Premier League stuff is easy, isn't it? Arne Slot has won all three of his games in charge of Liverpool so far without conceding a goal.

They haven't been majorly tested yet - perhaps the first half against Ipswich in the opening game of the season aside - and that will unlikely change with back-to-back home games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth to come.

But he will still have to make sure his side get the jobs done, and, with the schedule now picking up amid the start of the Champions League, his squad will be stretched.

Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are injured, meaning the Dutchman may be stretched in midfield, and he will hope that Mohammed Salah and Luis Diaz can keep up their early season form.

But it's so far, so good, and Slot has taken to Anfield like a duck to water.

A chance to put the poor starts right

It may be rosy for Slot and Liverpool so far, but the same can't be said for everyone.

Six sides are without a win so far - two are pointless - and others are punching below what they had expected and hoped for.

Everton, Southampton and Wolves make up the bottom three with one point between them, and they will all now have a solid block of games to put things right before the next break comes around.

The Toffees in particular will be hoping their season starts now after a humiliating collapse at the hands of Bournemouth before the break.

The Manchester United - and Erik ten Hag - saga

And that brings ups onto United and Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman is already under pressure just three games after he was chosen to stay on by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but this season has not gone to plan so far.

An unconvincing win over Fulham on the first day raised eyebrows, and a late defeat by Brighton confirmed that the struggles of last season were still there. The 3-0 hammering by Liverpool was as expected as it was routine.

United sit 14th in the Premier League table and are in need of quick improvement. CEO Omar Berrada has given Ten Hag a vote of confidence on more than one occasion after the Liverpool loss, but he too must be aware that what is being served up right now is not good enough.

Southampton away in the first game back is a nice fixture to ease back in to league action after the break. But it also comes with pressure - nothing other than a victory will be accepted.

Ugarte's presence will be a plus, but it remains unclear how fit he really is after he started both games for Uruguay over the break but Ten Hag said he is a way off starting.

Saturday's 12:30 could be quite the watch, because pressure is increasing at United after just three matches of the season.

Promoted clubs hunting for first wins

It's been tough going for Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester so far this season.

Following their promotions to the top flight last term, they now have just two draws to go with the seven losses from nine games between them so far.

For Ipswich, two fixtures against Liverpool and then Manchester City were almost bedding in games before their season truly got underway. A draw against Fulham is a good start, and a favourable run of games could see them now really settle.

It's been a little harder going for Southampton and Leicester. The former are winless and face United next, while Leicester drew against Tottenham in their first game but have lost both since.

It's a really important month for all four teams.

Will Haaland score another hattrick?

Probably.

Erling Haaland has shocked fans with his hat-trick record, taking his total in City colours to eight when he beat Lucasz Fabianski for his second in succession against West Ham in Manchester City's last game.

It took him just 69 matches to reach the feat that took Thierry Henry 258 matches, Harry Kane 320 and Michael Owen 326.

The Norwegian looks in the form of his life and will be licking his lips at the prospect of a home fixture against Brentford to look forward to this weekend. Few would bet against him netting three again.

Ipswich and West Ham suffered his wrath in his last two outings. The Etihad now awaits.

There's another month until the next international break

No one really likes the international break, do they?

Club football is where it's at an we have four more rounds of Premier League action to enjoy before we pause again for more Nations League games.

The title race may start to take shape, the fight for survival will commence and we may even see a managerial change or two.

The amount of plot lines and fan interest simply makes the top flight clear of national right matters right now. Save that for the tournaments.

And the Champions League isn't far away from starting either!

The football keeps on coming and clubs barely have a moment to breathe between fixtures. Good for the fans, but maybe not so good for the players.

There will be two rounds of Champions League matches before the next international break, and there's also a new format for fans to enjoy and get their heads around.

How will the new format play out? Can Manchester City return to the pinnacle? How will Aston Villa cope in Europe's premier competition?

So much is there to drive interest - and it's about to get busy.
