Darwin Nunez consoles his son in emotional scenes after Liverpool star threw chairs and battled Colombia fans when they 'attacked families of Uruguay players'

New footage has emerged showing Uruguayan forward and Liverpool star Darwin Nunez consoling his young son in the aftermath of Wednesday’s shocking Copa America brawl in Charlotte.

Nunez made international headlines when confronted the hostile crowd and threw punches at Colombian supporters after Uruguay’s 1-0 semifinal defeat. Other footage showed the 25-year-old attempting to launch a chair into the crowd before being thwarted by security.

Afterwards teammate Jose Gimenez told reporters that Uruguayan players' families were 'avalanched' by drunken Colombian supporters, adding that Nunez entered the fray to protect them.

That could explain why a shirtless Nunez was seen holding and comforting his two-year-old son and namesake on the pitch alongside his wife, Lorena. Clearly shaken by the confrontation, Nunez stroked his son’s back while his distraught spouse spoke and gestured toward the crowd.

Other new surfaced footage shows Nunez darting towards the crowd while holding a black chair, which he attempted to launch towards the fans. A security guard thwarted Nunez, but the violent encounter was only getting started.

Several of Nunez’s teammates entered the fray as police remained curiously absent from the scene.

'This is an embarrassment, there wasn't one police officer to control them. We had to go and defend our own just because they can't control their drinking,' Gimenez said.

Uruguay players Maximiliano Araujo and Sebastian Caceres were also among those spotted near the fans.

The families of Uruguay players were then escorted out of the stadium through a different exit to ensure their safety, according to reporter Favian Renkel.

Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa was asked about the scenes after the match, and said he 'didn't see everything.'

'I went to the locker room…the Uruguayan players were thanking the Uruguayan fans for their support,' he continued.

Uruguay moves on to face Canada in the Copa America third-place game on Saturday, while Colombia will play rival Argentina in Sunday’s final.

The skirmish followed a hotly-contested match which saw Colombia just barely hold on to a one-goal lead to advance to the Copa America final vs. Argentina.

Within a fiery atmosphere at Bank of America Stadium, Colombia saw a man sent off, both teams levied some extremely heavy tackles on each other and James Rodriguez was booked after furiously protesting with the referee.

Munoz was given his marching orders after receiving two yellows in the first half, the second of which saw him elbow Manuel Ugarte.

Liverpool's Luis Diaz was also hacked down on several occasions, while Uruguay drew the ire of their opponents when they refused to stop playing with Richard Rios crumpled in the far corner.

He was eventually stretchered off after trying to continue.

Eventually, Colombia ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a Jefferson Lerma header, and they will play Lionel Messi and Argentina in Sunday's final in Miami.
