Liverpool Under-19s 'walk off and refuse to play' after Reds player was 'racially abused' during pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt... while German side insist their player was 'misheard'

Liverpool Under-19s walked off the pitch during their friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt after alleged racist abuse.

A report from BILD states that a player from Frankfurt's Under-19 side is alleged to have used a racist term to insult a Liverpool player.

The Liverpool and Frankfurt youth teams were facing each other at a tournament in the city of Schwabisch Hall in Germany. 

Following the alleged incident the Liverpool refused to continue playing and walked off the pitch.

The game was subsequently abandoned with the sides level at 1-1, with Frankfurt being awarded a 3-0 win.

Frankfurt sporting director Timmo Hardung claimed that the player had been misheard.

Hardung said that the player used the slang term 'digga', which means 'bro' or 'dude'.

Hardung told BILD: 'Our entire NLZ is like Eintracht Frankfurt, multicultural and we have clear values ​​that we live by and constantly demand.

'Racism has no place here, but we still take such an accusation seriously.'

Hardung added that 'we can rule out racism'.

He said: 'After consultation, our player confirmed that he had used the word 'digga', which is common in youth slang, in the course of a normal game. We have no doubt that this statement is correct.

'We can rule out racism, it is a linguistic issue and we therefore hope that we have also cleared up the misunderstanding with the players concerned and those responsible at Liverpool FC.'
