Jamie Carragher hits out at 'unprofessional' Liverpool star after 'ridiculous' moment during the Reds' 3-0 win over Man United

Jamie Carragher slammed one of Liverpool's star players following a baffling moment during their 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Reds cruised to a comprehensive victory thanks to a first-half double from Luis Diaz before Mo Salah wrapped up the win after the break.

But they could have scored even more goals in the second half, and Carragher was far from impressed with one player for passing up a golden opportunity to make it 4-0.

After Liverpool cut open United's defence with an incisive attack, the ball was squared to Dominik Szoboszlai who appeared to have the simple task of tapping home from close range. Instead, he feinted to shoot multiple times before being crowded out without even having an effort on goal, leaving Carragher fuming.

'What is he doing? Is he trying to be cocky?' an enraged Carragher asked while on Sky Sports commentary.

Despite Liverpool being in complete control of the match, Carragher referred to how Everton threw away a two-goal lead to lose against Bournemouth just 24 hours earlier, as he insisted Szoboszlai's decision not to shoot could prove costly.

'If United get one back the crowd gets up, we saw yesterday what happened to Everton,' he continued. 

'That’s ridiculous that from Szoboszlai. That’s just ridiculous, it’s unprofessional.'

Fellow co-commentator Gary Neville was also bemused, as the United legend claimed: 'He’s messing about there. He should be absolutely rollocked by the rest of his team-mates for that. That’s a liberty. 

'It’s the sort of thing you’d do in training and get a telling off, never mind in a match at Old Trafford.'

Fortunately for Szoboszlai, his miss did not come back to haunt Liverpool as they saw out the remaining minutes of the game to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Arne Slot's men have won their opening three matches without conceding a goal, leaving them behind Manchester City in the table on goals scored.

Szoboszlai has emerged as a key player under the new Dutch manager, registering two assists in the opening weeks of the campaign.

But he may have received a dressing-down from Slot after full time for his lack of killer instinct in front of goal when Liverpool had the chance to truly put United to the sword.
