Manuel Ugarte was involved in an awkward interaction with Erik ten Hag as he was welcomed to the club by the Manchester United manager.

The Uruguayan international, 23, was announced as a Manchester United player on deadline day and revealed to fans at Old Trafford before their 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

In a video posted on Thursday at the club's Carrington training base, the £51m signing and Ten Hag were filmed speaking as they headed indoors.

In an apparent effort to hype Ugarte up in front of the cameras, he said: 'This guy brings us the fight.'

However, it appears that it might take some time for the midfielder to understand his Dutch manager.

United could certainly do with some fight after a lacklustre start to the 2024-25 season.

The Red Devils scraped a late win against Fulham, lost 2-1 on the road to Brighton and then suffered a crushing 3-0 loss to their bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ten Hag's side looked weak in midfield against Arne Slot's side, with all three goals coming from players losing the ball in the middle of the park.

Casemiro in particular faced a lot of criticism after he was dispossessed in the build-up to Liverpool's first two goals.

Kobbie Mainoo was then caught out in the second-half allowing Mohamed Salah to secure the win.

United fans will hope to see Ugarte in action when they return to action on September 14 against promoted Southampton.
