Fomer Manchester City and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has joined Swiss side FC Sion for £2.3million.

The Italian is set to move to the 11th different club of his career after leaving Turkish side Adana Demirspor and was announced on Wednesday evening by his new club, signing a two-year-deal.

The move comes just days after he nearly came to blows with the Turkish side's manager Vincenzo Montella.

The forward joined Adana Demirspor on a three-year deal in July 2021 and had been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance in Turkey following his move from Monza.

But following just 13 months at the club, he has departed the Turkish Super Lig side, after his furious row with his former boss Montella

At the culmination of Adana Demirspor's 1-0 Turkish Super Lig victory over Umraniye on Saturday, Balotelli provoked an angry reaction from the Italian manager.

The striker appeared to make a comment to Montella that angered the Demirspor manager so much, that he had to be restrained by staff and players.

Montella appeared to lunge at Balotelli and the pair were only separated as staff around them intervened and pulled them apart.

The Italian scored 19 goals for the Turkish side last season, his second-highest return in a season after the 24 he netted for Nice in 2017-18.

After his deal was confirmed by the Swiss side, Sion sporting director Barthelemy Constantin said: 'Mario Balotelli will bring us a lot offensively since he comes out of a full season and arrives with us with confidence.

'He is the kind of striker we needed, with great determination. It is an honour to have him with us.'

He would go on to have stints at AC Milan, Liverpool, Nice, Marseille, Brescia, Monza and Adana Demirspor before joining his current side in Switzerland.

The Italian striker has scored 14 goals in 36 games for his country, but his career has never been short of controversy.

His clash with former boss Montella is not the first time Balotelli has been involved in a bust-up with his manager.

While at Manchester City he infamously squared-up to Roberto Mancini during a training session and had to be removed from pitch.

The former Italian international also hit the headlines for the wrong reasons during his spell in Manchester, when he accidentally set fire to his bathroom after letting off fireworks in his house.

He won a Premier League medal at Manchester City, famously assisting Sergio Aguero for City's famous winning goal against QPR in 2012.

However, despite early hopes in his career that he could go on to become one of the best players in the world - he has struggled to live up to the hype and has now joined his 11th club.
