Manchester City booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup after thrashing Championship leaders Burnley 6-0.

Erling Haaland took his tally for the season to 42 with another hat-trick, with Julian Alvarez also netting a brace while substitute Cole Palmer got in on the action

Sportsmail's Ian Whittell rated the players from the FA Cup quarter-final clash at the Etihad.

Man City (4-1-4-1):

Stefan Ortega 6: The German keeper was the only “reserve” selected by Guardiola for the tie and a poor early clearance could have been disastrous. Saved well from Tella and Maatsen, and his kick led to the opener.

Kyle Walker 6: Back in the starting line-up and City needed his pace, with Burnley threatening on the break occasionally. Set up what looked a sitter for Mahrez.

Ruben Dias 7: Made a vital challenge on Tella when he looked poised to score, showing why his manager likened him to Kompany pre-match. Cool on the ball.

Aymeric Laporte 7: Very composed at the back in the first half spell when the tie was scoreless and Burnley on top. Showed his strength and poise in his second half tussles with veteran Barnes.

Rico Lewis 7: Nominally, a left-back, the versatile teenager moved into midfield when City had the ball - which was most of the time. One stunning tackle on Foster showed his defensive quality.

Rodri 6: Alone a lot of the time in midfield and did look like he might be over-run occasionally but his timing and experience helped keep the Clarets at bay.

Riyad Mahrez 7: Slow start but as City grew into the tie, he started to be more productive down the right. Hit a good chance straight at the keeper after the break.

Kevin De Bruyne 7: Not at the peak of his powers, with a few misplaced passes and some unproductive set-pieces. But brilliant assists for two of City’s second half goals.

Julian Alvarez 8: World Cup winner played a central attacking midfield role and that’s where the opening goal came from with his brilliant assist. Still adapting to a slightly different role but deserved his goals.

Phil Foden 7: Very much targeted for some rough tactics by his old mate Kompany; with Beyer, Roberts and Vitinho all catching him. Still, showed no ill effects as he laid on the second.

Erling Haaland 9: Five in midweek, but barely a sniff until he cooly converted a 27-minute hat-trick with his customary lethal touch. That meant he had scored nine goals in his last 134 minutes for City!

Burnley (4-2-3-1)

Bailey Peacock-Farrell 7: Back-up keeper didn’t have a save to make in the first half but still had to pick the ball out of the net twice. Made a couple of good second half blocks before the deluge.

Connor Roberts 4: Bore the brunt of Foden’s marauding runs down the City left and was nowhere in sight for City’s second. Could not get close enough to kick Foden, though he tried hard.

Ameen Al Dakhil 4: Young defender missed a tricky half-chance from a first half corner and struggled all day long with City’s firepower. An experience he won’t forget.

Jordan Beyer 4: Big defender had no answer to Haaland, but no shame in that. Despite being 6’2” was tossed aside like a rag doll by the City man in one attack.

Ian Maatsen 5: Might have done better with a rare sight of goal just before the break but his shot was too close to the keeper. Never gave up against Mahrez but had his hands full.

Johann Gudmundsson 5: Charged down an early Rodri shot and grafted but never had enough of the ball to show his distribution skills and taken off at the break.

Josh Cullen 5: Used the ball well during a short spell of Burnley dominance in the first half but the rest of his afternoon was spent chasing shadows, rather than the ball.

Nathan Tella 6: Looked lively when the tie was competitive and only a great Dias tackle denied him one scoring opportunity while Ortega saved well from another of his attempts.

Vitinho 4: Attacking midfielder showed plenty of pace and willing in the first half and was involved in some nice passing moves but disappeared after the break, as all the Clarets did.

Anass Zaroury 6: Couple of good balls might have led to something, one for Tella in particular, but another skilful Burnley forward who was never going to be allowed to shine.

Lyle Foster 5: Little-used South African was gifted an early chance by Ortega but was stopped by Lewis. A big ask for the youngster and no surprise he went off at the break.
