Erik ten Hag insists the appointment of chief executive Omar Berrada shows a raise in standards at Man United... as he hails new part-owners Ineos for lifting spirits at the club

Erik ten Hag has welcomed the appointment of new Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada and says it is part of the process of raising standards at Old Trafford.

Berrada’s move from Manchester City is a coup for new part-owners Ineos and a clear indication that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to put football first at the club following years of commercial growth but lack of success on the pitch.

The 46-year-old executive won’t be able to start his new job until the summer – with Patrick Stewart continuing as interim CEO – but Ten Hag believes it has already lifted the mood inside United.

‘It gives spirit in this whole club,’ he said. ‘Everyone notices this club is going into a period of change and it's because we want to achieve high targets. 

'Standards have to change. We started with this one-and-a-half years ago.

‘I'm sure Ineos and me are very aligned on this. We understand we have to change, and we started that process last season with the dressing-room, but also many departments.

‘So I am very happy that I get the support and that other departments have to raise the standards, to collaborate more. Ineos can have a big impact on that.’
