Erling Haaland has scored 30 goals more than his closest rival since arriving in the Premier League last year.

The Norwegian enjoyed a stunning debut season in England, winning the Treble with Manchester City and setting a new record for goals in a 38-match Premier League season with 36.

Haaland rifled in 52 goals in 53 in all competitions last season and, despite missing almost two months because of an ankle injury, he has found the net 27 times in 30 appearances this term.

In November, he became the fastest player to hit the 50-goal landmark in the Premier League in just 48 appearances.

The 23-year-old scored five as City thrashed Luton 6-2 at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night to book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals, taking his tally to 79 goals in 83 games for the club in all competitions.

To put the figure into context, over the same period the next most prolific scorer in the Premier League - Mohamed Salah - has scored 49 goals in 79 appearances.

Aston Villa's front man Ollie Watkins and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford both have 35 goals across 76 and 87 matches respectively.

Crucially, only five of Rashford's goal have come this season after he netted a career-best 30 times last term.

Harry Kane and Haaland's teammate Julian Alvarez have scored 32 goals since the start of last season in 49 and 87 games respectively, while Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden have 31 in 82 and 87 appearances in all competitions.

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen has scored 30 goals in 86 games since the start of last season, while Liverpool's Darwin Nunez has netted 28 in 79 appearances.

Haaland's is already seventh in the list of City's greatest goalscorers, despite having played less than 100 games for the club.

All of the six players ahead of him in the list have made at least 200 appearances for City, with Sergio Aguero topping the table with 260 goals in 390 matches.

The Argentine scored 0.67 goals per match at City, while Haaland is currently averaging 0.95 goals every 90 minutes.

Should the Norwegian continue to score at the same blistering pace, he would need another 190 appearances to equal Aguero's record in 117 fewer matches.

Speaking after Haaland's five-goal exploit against Luton, Pep Guardiola paid tribute to his talisman.

'It’s his talent. We know always he is there, he always has the chances,' the Spaniard said.

'Always we work as a team, providing the chances. Sometimes you score goals, sometimes not. Quite often he scores. But it’s not a big issue because he’s a special talent.

'The number he has at his age in all competitions, honestly it’s unbelievable. At the end, we know it. He’s our top goalscorer, happy that he’s got the confidence, because the guys who are the top scorers need goals.'
