The curtain came down on another Premier League season last weekend, and it was once again one that will last long in the memory.

Though most of the league's outcomes were already decided going into the final weekend, the title race went down to the wire as Pep Guardiola and Manchester City made history.

The champions became the first side ever to win the Premier League title for a fourth consecutive season, pipping Arsenal to success, largely in thanks to a final day win over West Ham at the Etihad.

Throughout the season, the 20 teams and hundreds of players battled it out to earn success for their sides, causing plenty of drama, excitement, and unexpected thrills.

Throughout every gameweek, Mail Sport provided a Power Rankings list that judged the best 10 players in the Premier League and, here, we've tallied it up to find out the outright winner.

Though no trophy came his or Arsenal's way, it was a season of success for William Saliba, who played every minute of the Premier League campaign for the Gunners on the back of last season's injury woes.

The defender has instated himself as one of the best in the league in his position, and was the core of the division's best defence, helping secure 18 league clean sheets and concede just 29 goals.

James Ward-Prowse, meanwhile, started well for West Ham, before his form dipped and he found himself battling just to get in the Hammers' team. He picked up just two Power Rankings points after gameweek seven.

On the other hand, Trent Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, started slowly before excelling in a hybrid midfield role.

He struggled with injuries and wasn't at his usual best, but incoming manager Arne Slot may help him return to the form that had him regarded as one of the world's best.

9. Alexander Isak (61 points)

Alexander Isak didn't really break through in Power Rankings until the season run-in, which saw him score 11 Premier League goals in the final 12 matches of the campaign.

It wasn't the perfect year for Eddie Howe's men, but Isak was certainly a bright spark and has established himself as one of the best around in his position.

The Magpies may face a battle to keep him next season, with the likes of Arsenal said to be circling, but any consideration of an exit would demand a hefty fee due to his form, age and the four years still remaining on his current deal. 

Due to Manchester United's FA Cup win, Newcastle won't be competing in Europe next season, which may provide the opportunity for Isak to excel even further in league action.

8. Declan Rice (74 points)

Signing of the season? Maybe.

Arsenal won the race to secure Declan Rice's signature last summer when it became clear he would be leaving West Ham, paying a stern £105million for his services.

The England star has repaid every penny, though, and almost proved he was the missing piece the Gunners needed to win the Premier League title.

Whether he played in defensive midfield or a bit further forward, Rice proved reliable as ever every week (apart from the one time he booted Ben Davies in the north London derby).

Like Saliba, Rice played every Premier League game for the Gunners, scoring seven times and notching nine assists. It's possible Arsenal will sign another defensive midfielder in the summer so he can kick on further. 

7. Ollie Watkins (76 points)

A breakthrough season of sorts for Ollie Watkins has almost definitely earned him a place on the plane for the European Championships with England this summer.

He scored 27 goals in all competitions for Aston Villa, playing the role of talisman as his side secured Champions League qualification under Unai Emery, who seems to have unlocked Watkins.

Though goals are the name of the game - 19 of them in the Premier League without taking penalties - the 28-year-old picked up the Playmaker award for his 13 league assists.

Not bad at all. His reward will be a major international championships and a run in the Champions League. 

6. Cole Palmer (86 points)

Finishing sixth in Mail Sport's Power Rankings is pretty cold. Leaving your boyhood club for £42.5m, scoring 27 goals in your first season and picking up the Young Player of the Year award is also pretty cold.

Now-ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was forced to deny his side were not 'Cole Palmer FC' during the campaign, but he was by far and away the Blues' best player.

He had 42 goal involvements from Chelsea's 77 goals scored and Pochettino truly got the best out of him.

Palmer too will be on the plane to the Euros, and his job next season will be to ensure he can replicate the form under a different manager.

Beaten to the Golden Boot only by Erling Haaland, it would be a shock if he didn't. 

5. Phil Foden (88 points)

Perhaps the biggest surprise on this list is that Foden is so far down. Winning the Premier League Player of the Year award, he enjoyed the best individual season of his career.

Though it reaped just the one trophy in the form of the Premier League, he netted 27 goals as he became City's key and go-to man, finding a home as a wide player drifting centrally.

At 23, he already has six Premier League titles to his name and he will likely add many more.

4. Son Heung-min (90 points)

The season was always going to be tough for Tottenham, not only with Harry Kane leaving, meaning there were a fair few goals that needed replacing, but also Hugo Lloris.

Two big dressing room voices were no more, by Son Heung-min stepped up as the new club captain to help steer the transition in squad and management.

He enjoyed spells both up front and out wide under Ange Postecoglou as the Australian looked to implement a more attacking style of play and, though his form dipped towards the end of the season, his presence was vital.

His miss against Manchester City in the penultimate game of the season will live long in the memory of some more than others, but the 31-year-old remains one of the most devastating finishers in the league.

The need for adaptation in his game remains, but Son will once again be vital for Spurs next season as they look to go one further and qualify for the Champions League. 

3. Bukayo Saka (93 points)

It was a season of what could have been for Arsenal as a whole, but for Bukayo Saka it was once again business as usual.

It is easy to forget he's still only 22. It feels as though he has ben around forever and seems to be the only attacker that is rarely rested or rotated.

There were a couple of occasions in the season when that caught up with him - he missed the final game through injury - but it seems Mikel Arteta is leaning how to manage his workload more efficiently.

Still Arsenal's key man, still important to England, he will just want to start adding those trophies to his cabinet now. 

2. Erling Haaland (119 points)

Last season's Power Rankings winner can only manage second on this occasion.

It was another Golden Boot and Premier League title for Erling Haaland, but he faced criticism in what was a much tougher season than the last.

Who could forget his infamous war of words with Roy Keane? Or his injury-hit spell over Christmas, keeping him out the Club World Cup, that left Fantasy Premier League players reeling?

Nonetheless, when he was available, Haaland was more often than not as ruthless as ever, netting 38 goals in 45 appearances. Missing out on top spot by only nine points, he surely would have retained his crown had it not been for injury. 

1. Mohamed Salah (128 points)

The Egyptian King is the Mail Sport Power Rankings king for the 2023-24 season.

He didn't feature in the top 10 in the last seven weeks of the season, but his earlier work was enough for Mohamed Salah to cling onto top spot, having spent four weeks at the top throughout the campaign.

Post-African Cup of Nations life was tough, as it often has been, but a return of 25 goals and 14 assists  in all competitions is no mean feat.

Unfortunately he was unable to steer Liverpool to a goodbye Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp, and his future remains unclear, but, for now, he can celebrate another successful personal year in Red.
