WATCH: Haaland gets his hat-trick

It's just too easy for Erling Haaland.

Just watch his movement as soon as Matheus Nunes gets the ball. He knows exactly where he needs to go.

If teams fall asleep for just a split second, he punishes them. He does it time and time again.

Enjoy watching another lovely goal.

'Haaland is extraordinary'

Micah Richards, Former Man City defender, on Sky Sports:

I thought West Ham were brilliant. I thought they were brave. I thought they took the game to Man City but in the end, the difference is Haaland.

Just the ruthlessness in front of goal, that's why he has scored so many goals. We talk about his touches in games so often, maybe not getting involved, maybe not holding it up as we'd expect him to but in front of goal, he is just extraordinary. One of the best I have ever seen.

Haaland breaking boundaries

Not many people can score hat-tricks as frequently as Erling Haaland.

I say not many, but in this day and age, there is literally no one, not even Cristiano Ronaldo.

Haaland is the first player to score a hat-trick in two of a team's first three league games in a season since 1994-95.

Guess who was the last to do it?

It was Paul Jewell for Bradford... I bet that is not the name you thought I would type.

'Goals came from mistakes'

Kathryn Batte, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Julen Lopetegui will be pleased West Ham stayed in that game for so long, but they lacked an end product and that will the most frustrating take away from this game. Erling Haaland was unstoppable though West Ham will feel the first and third goals came from their own mistakes.

Another hatty for Haaland

Erling Haaland and hat-tricks go hand-in-hand.

That's two of them in a row now for th striker and we are only three games into the Premier League season.

He has 11 of them in total for Manchester City and 24 in his career.

Where does he put all of the balls?

Must have a big house. I mean, of course, he does.

FULL-TIME: West Ham 1-3 Man City

Crycensio Summerville nearly scores a consolation goal right a the end, but Ederson is equal to his curling effort.

And there goes the final whistle, that is the last action of the game.

Three goals for Erling Halland, three goals for Man City, and three points.

Both the Norweigan striker and the Champions as a whole were just too good for West Ham today.

They go top of the league.

CLOSE! West Ham 1-3 Man City

Nearly a fourth for Erling Haaland.

he breaks away down the left and very nearly squeezes the ball in underneath Lukasz Fabianski from a tight angle.

He's annoyed too, he wants more.

FIVE minutes added time

Five more minutes until West ham's nightmare is over.

Will Erling Haaland add any more to his tally in that time?

West Ham 1-3 Man City

I'm going to admit something, I think I jinxed West Ham before the third goal.

Literally one minute before Erling Haaland scored his hat-trick, I turned to my colleague and said he hadn't had a kick in the second half.

I never learn - sorry, Hammers.

Back-to-back hat-tricks for Erling Haaland!

He has hardly had a touch of the ball in the second half, but that never matters with this fella.

West Ham's backline presses too high and Matheus Nunes slides Haaland through.

As soon as he is through, you just know what the end result is going to be.

Goal number seven for the season... already.

CHANCE! West Ham 1-2 Man City

Oh, was that the chance for West Ham?

But despite two bites of the cherry, Soucek can't guide his effort on target.

West Ham 1-2 Man City

Manchester City have been struggling a little in the last 10 minutes or so, but that's a little better from them.

They work the ball to Bernardo Silva on the edge of the area and he just decides to have a crack.

His shot is tame though and is easy for Lukasz Fabianski to gather.

West Ham 1-2 Man City

I love that from Ederson!

Mohammed Kudus launches a lovely ball over the top for Jarrod Bowen and he looks like he is away.

But suddenly the Brazilian keeper comes rushing out his box and launches his body at the ball to head out of play.

Great goalkeeping.

CHANCE! West Ham 1-2 Man City

What did Julen Lopetegui say to his side at half-time?

The hosts suddenly have the bit between their teeth and now Jarrod Bowen is trying to make things happen again.

He drives down the right and fires a low cross into the area, but Michail Antonio can't get a touch on it.

Antonio again then tries to prod home moments later but is foiled.

man_city.png

West Ham 1-2 Man City

I can't forget about Jarrod Bowen either, he could have his say on this second half.

He has just made a lovely little run down the right-hand side to get West Ham on the attack.

The crowd loved it.

If West Ham are going to get anything out of this game, you just feel like Mohammed Kudus will have something to do with it.

So close from Mohammed Kudus!

Out of nowhere, West Ham break on Manchester City, and Kudus nearly finishes off a fantastic move.

the winger breaks away and plays a give-and-go with Jarrod Bowen before crashing the ball against the near post.

That would have been a stunning goal.

West Ham 1-2 Man City

So, not much has happened so far this half.

Just more of the same, really. Manchester City are playing keep ball.

Just as I say that, Bernardo Silva heads over, but it was never troubling Lukasz Fabianksi.

17:34, 46'

SECOND HALF: West Ham 1-2 Man City

That's not ideal for West Ham, is it?

Lukasz Fabianski is indeed now entering the action after the break with Alphonse Areola going off injured.

Anyway, the ball is now rolling again.

west_ham.png
man_city.png

'Areola injured'

Kathryn Batte, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Looks like Areola picked up an injury in the first half, Fabianski will take his place in the second half.

Ominous signs for Hammers...

Manchester City don't usually lose when they open the scoring.

The Citizens have lost just one of their last 87 Premier League games in which they've done just that winning 76 of them.

Their only loss in that time came against their bitter rivals Manchester United in January 2023.

The Red Devils came from one goal down to win 2-1 that day.

WATCH: Haaland bags a brace

If you haven't seen Erling Haaland's two goals, here you go.

The first was a classic Haaland finish, he is fed through and just opens up his body.

The second, however, is just pure pace and power. A crackerjack of a finish. Not many keepers would stop that.

Watch, and enjoy, City fans.

west_ham.png
man_city.png

A goal per game

Erling Haaland is just inevitable, isn't he?

I feel like a broken record at this point, I write the same thing week in and week out. Haaland just keeps scoring.

The City man's two goals today mean he has scored 69 goals in 69 Premier League games for the Citizens.

That's ridiculous, simply ridiculous.

Could he break his own league goals tally this season? He only has 30 to go...

'Haaland unstoppable'

Kathryn Batte, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Julen Lopetegui had said he had 'suffered' against Erling Haaland in the past and the striker has hurt him again here. Two emphatic goals. He's unstoppable when he's in this sort of form. West Ham simply don't know what to do when he gets the ball.

half_time.png

HALF-TIME: West Ham 1-2 Man City

There goes the whistle.

It's been the Erling Haaland show yet again in east London as his two goals have Manchester City in front at the break.

The visitors have been pretty dominant and could be already home and hosed if they were more clinical.

But despite scoring either side of Ruben Dias' own goal, this match is not over yet.

It has felt it at times, though.

Kevin de Bruyne has been everywhere in this first half.

After picking up a yellow he is shortly after standing over a free-kick just outside the box.

CHANCE! West Ham 1-2 Man City

Oh, it should be 3-1...

This time Erling Haaland wants to be involved in the link-up play and he slides Rico Lewis through.

If he and Haaland had switched positions, it would be game over.

West Ham 1-2 Man City

Once again, life has gone from the London Stadium.

When Erling Haaland is around, fans' joy is usually short-lived. He just can't stop scoring.

Kathryn Batte, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

The goal was Jarrod Bowen doing what he does best, getting down the right wing and putting crosses in. None of his team-mates were there to turn it in but Dias duly obliged. The defender wasn't under any pressure and should really have done better, but West Ham back in it out of nowhere.

This game is not dead yet!

West Ham have barely been in the game but all of a sudden they are level thanks to an own goal.

West Ham have started on smoke!

Now Jarrod Bowen decides he wants to cause some problems as he forced Ederson into a save from distance.

The opportunity came from West Ham's superb high press, which is causing Man City serious problems.

A bright start for the hosts.

West Ham 0-0 Man City

An early scare for Manchester City!

Mohammed Kudus has been a shining light for West Ham so far this season and he is already causing problems.

He beats Rivo Lewis before lofting a cross toward Michail Antonio at the back post.

But Josko Gvardiol does well under pressure to hook it clear.

KICK-OFF: West Ham 0-0 Man City

There is a huge roar as the teams get ready to go.

Can manchester City continue their fine record against West ham, or will the hosts spring a shock?

We will find out as we are now underway.

Remembering Sven

There is a minute's applause as the two clubs remember the late Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The former Manchester City boss passed away aged 76 last week after a battle with cancer.

Here come the teams!

The bubbles have been blown, you know what that means.

The two teams arise from the tunnel as they pop around them and West Ham have their sing-song. It's pretty loud.

It's then interrupted by the Premier League anthem, which you all know I strongly dislike.

Now, it's nearly time for the footie!

Soler introduced

Carlos Soler has just been introduced to the West Ham faithful and the fans gave him a lovely little clap.

The midfielder signed for the club on loan from PSG yesterday night but is not eligible to play today.

He seems very happy to be there!

Guardiola have things on his mind?

Jack Gaughan, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Pep Guardiola usually spends a fair amount of time pre-match sat in his technical area and today he looked like there were a few things on his mind. Savinho’s the latest to suffer an injury, Rodri is back in the squad though.

West Ham will be buoyed by encouraging performances under new management. It's usually a decent game between these two, a nice and open affair.

Grealish's time to shine

Jack Grealish gets his chance today, can he take it?

With both Savinho and Phil Foden out, Pep Guardiola has called upon Grealish to start on the left wing.

The winger struggled last season and has fallen down the pecking order for City, even missing out on Euro 2024 with England.

But today is a chance for him to shine again and prove to Guardiola why he has still got what it takes to play for City.

I'm interested to see if he will deliver.

STAT PACK: West Ham vs Man City

Want your Squakwa stat pack fix? Of course, you do.

If you are a West Ham fan, this is pretty ominous reading for you I am afraid.

These two sides have faced 46 times in the Premier League with Manchester City coming out on top 29 times.

In terms of last season's comparison, that speaks for itself.

Everything OK, Pep?

Erm... is Pep Guardiola an Everton fan?

The Spaniard has just been pictured with his head in his hands as the teams warm up, he doesn't seem happy.

I think that photo represents what all Toffees fans will have just done as Bournemouth completed a 3-2 comeback against them.

You can catch all the reaction to that here.

Good omens for City

It's fair to say, Manchester City love this fixture.

They have not lost any of their last 17 meetings with West Ham, winning 14 of those.

The last time they were on the losing side against the Hammers was all the way back in September 2015.

I had not long turned 15 years of age back then...

The last time they lost away at West Ham was a decade ago when Upton Park was still their home.

It's not looking good for the Hammers.

City in the capital...

Now these are some cool pictures.

Manchester City have arrived at the London Stadium and they look like they mean business.

It may be the impressive editing, but it doesn't like these guys are in the capital to mess about.

Antonio to make Irons history?

I agree with Kathryn, I'm slightly surprised to see Michail Antonio start again too.

He hasn't exactly impressed so far under Julen Lopetegui, but he once again has the chance to make history today.

Antonio has netted 67 Premier League goals and provided 32 assists during his time at West Ham

He is one short of reaching 100 Premier League goal involvements for the Hammers, and no player in the club's history has ever managed it.

Can he prove me wrong and reach that mark today?

'Interesting that Antonio starts'

Kathryn Batte, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Interesting to see Michail Antonio start up top again ahead of Niclas Fullkrug. The German striker clearly still getting up to speed.

Tomas Soucek has also lost his place to Edson Alvarez despite scoring at Crystal Palace last weekend. Intrigued to see how he links up with Guido Rodriguez in midfield. Wan-Bissaka also rewarded with his first league start after impressing in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

'Savinho has knee injury'

Jack Gaughan, Mail Sport, at the London Stadium:

Savinho has a knee injury. Man City have decided to give him 10 days off and are hopeful he can recover before the squad returns after the international break.

AWB gets his chance

I wonder how the man below is feeling?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has faced Manchester City many times in his career, however, normally the pressure is really on.

I'm not saying it isn't today, but he usually turns out against them in the red of their rivals, Manchester United.

However, he is there no longer and today makes his first Premier League start in claret and blue.

I've liked what I have seen from his first two appearances for them, this Hammers side looks like a great fit for him today.

The full-back will have Jack Grealish to deal with today and that could be a key battle over on City's left.

Can he deal with him?

Guardiola: 'Haaland is a goal machine'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, speaking on Erling Haaland:

His ability is his strength and potential and power, and being a goal machine. Please don’t ever change that – he cannot lose that. Of course, he is involved because we talk about how you can do better. The most important thing is this season he feels [better].

When he arrived from Dortmund he had a lot of problems with injuries, last season he struggled with the success of the past. This season I feel he is better, staying on the pitch after training sessions a bit more for crosses and finishing.

I spoke with the physios and he doesn’t have any niggles. One game a week, tiredness will come. Now he goes to play the Nations League with Norway and it’s a 10-hour flight. He has to be careful but so far, part of the tour in the States, he came back to be focused. As much as he’s happy and enjoying scoring goals, it never disappears.

Haaland the summer machine

Erling Haaland is a machine all year round, in truth.

But he has a particular love for August, with four Premier League goals to his name already this month, from two games.

In fact, he has scored 16 goals in his 10 league matches for City in August.

The striker has a minutes-per-goal ratio of 52 in the month, the best by any player in a particular month in Premier League history.

I think I just heard West Ham fans gulp...

Big day for Jack Grealish, who’s in from the start with Savinho absent.

Man City Team News - Grealish STARTS

OK, so Rodri is on the bench.

Pep Guardiola makes just one change to the 11 that beat Ipswich Town last week.

Jack Grealish comes in to replace Savinho who does not make the squad.

Phil Foden yet again misses out through illness.

west_ham.png

West Ham Team News - TWO changes

Just the two changes for West Ham.

Tomas Soucek, who scored in their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last week, is replaced by Edson Alvarez.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka comes in to make his full Premier League Hammers debut.

Happy with the team, Irons?

'City's Electric'

With Oasis returning in the past week, we just have to provide you with a Manchester City fact to do with the band.

Oasis last performed a gig in August 2009, since then, Manchester City have won more points than any other Premier League side, banking 1,252.

Does that mean City should be worried they are back? They weren't exactly setting the world alight before then...

Rodri to return?

Once Rodri returns, the Premier League will collectively sigh.

Manchester City are good enough anyway, but with Rodri protecting the back four, they are nearly unbeatable.

I say 'nearly' because Manchester United proved that City can be beaten with Rodri in the side when they beat them in the FA Cup final.

The midfielder may return to the City squad today after he missed the first two league matches following a summer break.

Will he start, or will he start from the bench?

Will City open up early lead?

If Manchester City win today, they will go two points clear at the top of the table.

You all probably read that and thought 'But it's only the third game of the season'. And yes, you'd be right.

But in the modern era of the Premier League, where City run rampant every year, you need points on the board.

So while Arsenal won't be worried if City win today, they won't be best pleased to be sat behind them at this early stage.

The way Pep Guardiola's men have looked, so far, I wouldn't bet against them taking all three points.

They will be well up for it.

Once more in the capital

London has been the epicentre of Premier League games today.

Well, I have just finished covering Arsenal's draw with Brighton at the Emirates, so that's what it feels like to me.

The question is, can Manchester City pounce on the Gunners' slip-up?

It's still early days, but I'm sure Pep Guardiola would love to open a little gap to his main title rivals.

Julen Lopetegui's new look West Ham will stand in their way, and they ain't no slouch.

I'm going to provide you with a Harry guarantee... this will be a cracker.

Strap yourselves in, I'm about to start what could be a bumpy ride.
