Not many people can score hat-tricks as frequently as Erling Haaland.

Julen Lopetegui will be pleased West Ham stayed in that game for so long, but they lacked an end product and that will the most frustrating take away from this game. Erling Haaland was unstoppable though West Ham will feel the first and third goals came from their own mistakes.

That's two of them in a row now for th striker and we are only three games into the Premier League season.

He has 11 of them in total for Manchester City and 24 in his career.

His shot is tame though and is easy for Lukasz Fabianski to gather.

The centre-back is booked after he chops down Jeremy Doku for the second time in a matter of minutes.

No complaints there.

I love that from Ederson!

Mohammed Kudus launches a lovely ball over the top for Jarrod Bowen and he looks like he is away.

But suddenly the Brazilian keeper comes rushing out his box and launches his body at the ball to head out of play.

Great goalkeeping.

What did Julen Lopetegui say to his side at half-time?

The hosts suddenly have the bit between their teeth and now Jarrod Bowen is trying to make things happen again.

He drives down the right and fires a low cross into the area, but Michail Antonio can't get a touch on it.

Antonio again then tries to prod home moments later but is foiled.

I can't forget about Jarrod Bowen either, he could have his say on this second half.

He has just made a lovely little run down the right-hand side to get West Ham on the attack.

The crowd loved it.

If West Ham are going to get anything out of this game, you just feel like Mohammed Kudus will have something to do with it.

Whenever he gets on the ball, he causes Manchester City problems. He just isn't given it enough.

Out of nowhere, West Ham break on Manchester City, and Kudus nearly finishes off a fantastic move.

the winger breaks away and plays a give-and-go with Jarrod Bowen before crashing the ball against the near post.

That would have been a stunning goal.

So, not much has happened so far this half.

Just more of the same, really. Manchester City are playing keep ball.

Just as I say that, Bernardo Silva heads over, but it was never troubling Lukasz Fabianksi.

That's not ideal for West Ham, is it?

Lukasz Fabianski is indeed now entering the action after the break with Alphonse Areola going off injured.

Anyway, the ball is now rolling again.

Looks like Areola picked up an injury in the first half, Fabianski will take his place in the second half.

Manchester City don't usually lose when they open the scoring.

The Citizens have lost just one of their last 87 Premier League games in which they've done just that winning 76 of them.

Their only loss in that time came against their bitter rivals Manchester United in January 2023.

The Red Devils came from one goal down to win 2-1 that day.

The first was a classic Haaland finish, he is fed through and just opens up his body.

The second, however, is just pure pace and power. A crackerjack of a finish. Not many keepers would stop that.

I feel like a broken record at this point, I write the same thing week in and week out. Haaland just keeps scoring.

The City man's two goals today mean he has scored 69 goals in 69 Premier League games for the Citizens.

That's ridiculous, simply ridiculous.

Could he break his own league goals tally this season? He only has 30 to go...

Julen Lopetegui had said he had 'suffered' against Erling Haaland in the past and the striker has hurt him again here. Two emphatic goals. He's unstoppable when he's in this sort of form. West Ham simply don't know what to do when he gets the ball.

It's been the Erling Haaland show yet again in east London as his two goals have Manchester City in front at the break.

The visitors have been pretty dominant and could be already home and hosed if they were more clinical.

But despite scoring either side of Ruben Dias' own goal, this match is not over yet.

It has felt it at times, though.

I have just seen Mohammed Kudus with the ball for the first time in what feels like forever.

He drives at Man City and into the area before pulling the trigger, but he arrows the ball just wide of the post.

After picking up a yellow he is shortly after standing over a free-kick just outside the box.

Michail Antonio tries to lead the counter-attack and looks to be away, but De Bruyen chops him down just as he is getting his legs turning.

Michael Oliver then reaches into his pocket and shows the Belgian a yellow.

I have not heard a peep from the London Stadium in the past few minutes.

Bernardo Silva just headed toward goal and there was a last-0gasp clearance from Emerson.

Even then, there wasn't a sound.

This time Erling Haaland wants to be involved in the link-up play and he slides Rico Lewis through.

The full-back then shows why he is a defender and blasts over in a very good position.

If he and Haaland had switched positions, it would be game over.

When Erling Haaland is around, fans' joy is usually short-lived. He just can't stop scoring.

I won't make the mistake of saying this game is dying like I did earlier, but the optimism has gone again from the stands.

Is Erling Haaland going to get back-to-back hat-tricks?

I wouldn't bet against it, the goal-scoring machine is truly well-oiled today. He is flying.

He could already have three in his game if he took his early chance.

Yep, Erling Haaland has scored yet another Premier League goal. That's six now in three games.

This one is a superb strike as Man City work it from left to right and he takes one touch before lashing it in.

The goal was Jarrod Bowen doing what he does best, getting down the right wing and putting crosses in. None of his team-mates were there to turn it in but Dias duly obliged. The defender wasn't under any pressure and should really have done better, but West Ham back in it out of nowhere.

Ok, the resurgence hasn't lasted too long, normal service has resumed.

Manchester City want to try and hit back as quickly as possible and have pinned West Ham back again.

Max Kilman is forced into a last-ditch header to stop Erling Haaland bagging a second.

Football is just so weird, isn't it?

West Ham couldn't even get out of their own half and could have been 3-0 down.

Now they are the side pushing the agenda and are going for Manchester City, with the crowd getting involved too.

West Ham have barely been in the game but all of a sudden they are level thanks to an own goal.

Jarrod Bowen drives down the right and just decides to smash the ball into the mixer even though no one is there.

Well, a certain Ruben Dias is and it cannons off his knee and into the back of the net.

This is a Manchester City onslaught.

The attacks just keep on coming and now Kevin de Bruyne has smashed the ball against the bar.

The ball comes his way and he tries to curl it into the top corner, but he is just inches from doing so and it comes back off the bar.

City could have three.

Man City have sucked all the life out of this game with that goal.

The ground has fallen silent, West Ham are just sitting back, and City are just stroking the ball about.

It's been 17 minutes and the game feels done, such an odd feeling.

Oh, nearly magic from Kevin de Bruyne!

He plays a one-two from the corner with Jack Grealish and then decides to try and squeeze a curling effort into the near post.

Alphonse Areola was not expecting it, but he manages to deal with it accordingly.

West Ham are all over the place, they really are.

They lose the ball in the middle of the park again and Manchester City are away.

Kevin de Bruyne then feeds Jack Grealish, but he can't do what Erling Haalnd did just moments earlier.

This time he makes no mistake!

Erling Haaland does not need more than two chances to score and he does what he does best.

West Ham make a mess of it in midfield and Bernardo Silva pinches the ball off of Lucas Paqueta, sets Halland free, and you know the rest.

That's five goals in three Premier League games now for the striker.

Man City have now taken full control of this match.

City have pinned the Hammers back and are now just waiting for their time to strike.

That bright start fizzled out very quickly for the hosts.

The midfielder signed for the club on loan from PSG yesterday night but is not eligible to play today.

Pep Guardiola usually spends a fair amount of time pre-match sat in his technical area and today he looked like there were a few things on his mind. Savinho’s the latest to suffer an injury, Rodri is back in the squad though.

West Ham will be buoyed by encouraging performances under new management. It's usually a decent game between these two, a nice and open affair.

Jack Grealish gets his chance today, can he take it?

With both Savinho and Phil Foden out, Pep Guardiola has called upon Grealish to start on the left wing.

The winger struggled last season and has fallen down the pecking order for City, even missing out on Euro 2024 with England.

But today is a chance for him to shine again and prove to Guardiola why he has still got what it takes to play for City.

I'm interested to see if he will deliver.

The Spaniard has just been pictured with his head in his hands as the teams warm up, he doesn't seem happy.

I think that photo represents what all Toffees fans will have just done as Bournemouth completed a 3-2 comeback against them.

It's fair to say, Manchester City love this fixture.

They have not lost any of their last 17 meetings with West Ham, winning 14 of those.

The last time they were on the losing side against the Hammers was all the way back in September 2015.

I had not long turned 15 years of age back then...

Antonio has netted 67 Premier League goals and provided 32 assists during his time at West Ham

He is one short of reaching 100 Premier League goal involvements for the Hammers, and no player in the club's history has ever managed it.

Interesting to see Michail Antonio start up top again ahead of Niclas Fullkrug. The German striker clearly still getting up to speed.

Tomas Soucek has also lost his place to Edson Alvarez despite scoring at Crystal Palace last weekend. Intrigued to see how he links up with Guido Rodriguez in midfield. Wan-Bissaka also rewarded with his first league start after impressing in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has faced Manchester City many times in his career, however, normally the pressure is really on.

I'm not saying it isn't today, but he usually turns out against them in the red of their rivals, Manchester United.

However, he is there no longer and today makes his first Premier League start in claret and blue.

I've liked what I have seen from his first two appearances for them, this Hammers side looks like a great fit for him today.

The full-back will have Jack Grealish to deal with today and that could be a key battle over on City's left.

Can he deal with him?

His ability is his strength and potential and power, and being a goal machine. Please don’t ever change that – he cannot lose that. Of course, he is involved because we talk about how you can do better. The most important thing is this season he feels [better].

When he arrived from Dortmund he had a lot of problems with injuries, last season he struggled with the success of the past. This season I feel he is better, staying on the pitch after training sessions a bit more for crosses and finishing.

I spoke with the physios and he doesn’t have any niggles. One game a week, tiredness will come. Now he goes to play the Nations League with Norway and it’s a 10-hour flight. He has to be careful but so far, part of the tour in the States, he came back to be focused. As much as he’s happy and enjoying scoring goals, it never disappears.

Erling Haaland is a machine all year round, in truth.

But he has a particular love for August, with four Premier League goals to his name already this month, from two games.

In fact, he has scored 16 goals in his 10 league matches for City in August.

The striker has a minutes-per-goal ratio of 52 in the month, the best by any player in a particular month in Premier League history.

Oasis last performed a gig in August 2009, since then, Manchester City have won more points than any other Premier League side, banking 1,252.

Does that mean City should be worried they are back? They weren't exactly setting the world alight before then...

Once Rodri returns, the Premier League will collectively sigh.

Manchester City are good enough anyway, but with Rodri protecting the back four, they are nearly unbeatable.

I say 'nearly' because Manchester United proved that City can be beaten with Rodri in the side when they beat them in the FA Cup final.

The midfielder may return to the City squad today after he missed the first two league matches following a summer break.

If Manchester City win today, they will go two points clear at the top of the table.

You all probably read that and thought 'But it's only the third game of the season'. And yes, you'd be right.

So while Arsenal won't be worried if City win today, they won't be best pleased to be sat behind them at this early stage.
