Lisandro Martinez received treatment after being substituted during Manchester United's 4-3 win against Wolves, prompting fears that the defender may have had a set back in his recovery from injury.

The Argentine centre back - widely considered to be one of Erik ten Hag's strongest signings at Old Trafford - has been sidelined for much of the past year after suffering a metatarsal injury in April.

After recovering through the summer, Martinez played five Premier League games for Man United this season before aggravating the injury a second time in September.

Martinez played his first match back from injury against Tottenham, coming on as a late substitute, before playing most of the 90 minutes in United's 4-2 FA Cup victory against Newport County.

Thursday evening's trip to Molineux marked the 26-year-old's first Premier League start for over four months, but the side's victory could yet be overshadowed by disappointing news for Ten Hag's players.

In footage of the match captured by USA, Martinez - who was brought off in the 86th minute and swapped for Harry Maguire - is seen being tended to by a club doctor within moments of reaching the bench.

The defender's left foot was heavily strapped by the medic, with bandages covering a bag of ice on top of the foot.

Martinez's surgery in October was on a broken metatarsal in his right foot, but the prompt treatment after receiving an apparent injury on the pitch will no doubt worry fans keen to see the player enjoy a consistent run of games on his return to action.

Man United have endured an ill-fated run of injuries throughout the season that has had a knock-on effect for the club's uneven form.

In defence, Ten Hag is still unable to call upon Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and a fully-fit Victor Lindelof.

But beyond Martinez's withdrawal, the Red Devils had much to celebrate after a strong night's showing in the Midlands.

Despite throwing away a two-goal lead, the visitors were able to cling on and nab all three points on the road courtesy of a late goal from academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo.

The teenager's 97th-minute winner helped break the 3-3 deadlock between the sides after Pedro Neto thought he'd claimed a share of the spoils moments earlier.

Victory sees United claw their way up t seventh, and in striking distance of sixth-placed West Ham, who are just one point ahead of the side.

But Ten Hag's side will have work to do making up the deficit should the team wish to keep pace with the pack at the top of the table, sitting eight points off Aston Villa in fifth.
