Roy Keane could not resist taking a dig at his fellow pundits after accusing them of cheering on Coventry during their remarkable comeback against Manchester United in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.

United appeared to be cruising to victory to set up a repeat of last year's final against Manchester City when they opened up a three-goal lead inside the opening hour thanks to strikes from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes.

But Coventry came roaring back by scoring three times in the final 20 minutes to force extra time, and they almost pulled off one of the biggest wins in their history when substitute Victor Torp netted in the final minute only for VAR to rule that there had been an offside in the build-up.

Erik ten Hag's men ultimately prevailed by winning the subsequent penalty shootout, but it was another humiliating afternoon for the Red Devils as they almost threw away a huge advantage, and Keane noted after the game that co-pundits Ian Wright and Karen Carney had not hidden who they were supporting when the game turned on its head.

'You were cheering for Coventry, I've never seen you cheer so much!' Keane said in the ITV studio as he took aim at Wright and Carney.

'I just wanted a good game, I was trying to wind you up,' Carney replied as Wright and host Mark Pougatch burst out laughing.

'I've never seen somebody so happy in my life,' Keane responded. 'Children... babies!' Keane added before winking at Pougatch as the host wrapped up ITV's coverage.

Keane's cheeky dig evoked memories of a similar moment from last season when he labelled Liverpool's Andy Robertson a 'baby' after the defender complained that he had been elbowed by assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis during his side's 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The ex-United captain claimed Robertson had made a meal of the issue and urged him to get on with the game as he repeatedly called him a baby before pausing to deliver one final 'baby', leaving his fellow pundits in stitches.

Keane's tongue-in-cheek comment on Sunday came at the end of an afternoon where he struggled to keep his cool after watching his old club capitulate at Wembley.

Reacting to United's narrow escape, Keane stated that it was United that looked like the 'Championship side' by the end of the game, and singled out goalkeeper Andre Onana for lacking 'courage' after he appeared to be wasting time in the latter stages of the match.

'Whenever I see this United team I don't like what I see. Talk about leadership and characters, I don't see that in this United team. My goodness, they rode their luck today,' he told ITV.

'We're having the same conversation every week with Man United, you don't know what you're going to get.'

'You always say you need a bit of luck. Maguire said they showed good character, I don't see character in this group of players,' he said. 'I'm looking at the goalkeeper, wasting time. Just get on with the game. Show some courage.

'In extra time Coventry looked like a Premier League team and Manchester United looked like a Championship side.'

United return to action on Wednesday when they host bottom club Sheffield United in the Premier League as they aim to secure European football via their league position before next month's FA Cup final.
