Bruno Fernandes dismissed the idea that Manchester United’s dressing room are out of sorts because of ‘worry’ over the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite securing back-to-back FA Cup final appearances, pressure has been ramped up on the Dutchman given the manner of their collapse from 3-0 up against Championship side Coventry City, who they edged out 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

The £1.3billion minority takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team, coupled with the appointments of a new CEO, technical director and pursuit of a director of football, has put Ten Hag’s future in the spotlight.

But United captain Fernandes does not want to hear any of the players using uncertainty over the manager’s position as an excuse for poor performances.

‘That doesn't have to affect anyone because we have to focus on everything we have [left] this season,’ he said.

‘We have still chances to get in European positions in the league, and we have to finish as high as possible, that's the main thing, and then we have an FA Cup final to play.

‘So, no-one has to be worried because it's not our job to be worried with these things that come from the outside or from the inside or whatever because we have the owners who take care of that, we have the directors and then we players it's about performing on the pitch and giving our best.’

Fernandes, who was officially awarded Player of the Match, was the stand-out for United with a goal and assist as they dominated in the first hour to run up a 3-0 scoreline.

But United collapsed thereafter, with Coventry scoring a last-minute penalty to force extra-time and then they almost won it at the end of extra-time, only for VAR to deny them by a fraction.

Asked what was said during animated team-talks throughout the day, Fernandes revealed the role of former United title winner Darren Fletcher in the build-up.

‘[The message was] to believe, to believe we can get into the final,’ he said.

‘It's about pride, it's about getting to an FA Cup final, you don't get here often, not all the teams get here often.

‘We had Fletch speaking before the game. Fletch has been part of one of the best teams for Manchester United in the past years and he's been here three times at Wembley for the FA Cup, he played 12 years for the club, he was in the most successful part of the club in the last years.

‘It shows you how big it is to be in the FA Cup, how difficult it is and now obviously we have to be frustrated at the way the game ended up but at the same proud again to be in the FA Cup final and hopefully we are going to do it differently to last season.’
