Wesley Sneijder and Marco van Basten have blasted two Manchester United players following the club's FA Cup semi-final victory against Coventry on Sunday afternoon.

After giving away a three-goal lead in the second half, Erik ten Hag's side would secure their place in the FA Cup final through a hollow 4-2 victory on penalties.

Coventry midfielder Ben Sheaf agonisingly put his spot-kick over the bar before Rasmus Hojlund stepped up to strike the winning penalty. There were mixed celebrations from the United team, with some players turning to shake hands with their opponents, while others, including Antony appeared to run towards Hojlund to celebrate the win.

In doing so, the Brazilian goaded the opposition players stood on the half-way line, cupping his hands over his ears in what has since been branded a classless and unsporting act. The incident caught the attention of former Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder who slammed the 24-year-old.

‘Antony should be absolutely embarrassed for what he did,’ Sneijder told Ziggo Sport.

‘He should have walked straight off the pitch instead of doing that. I hope Manchester United lose 5-0 in the final.’

He isn't the first to speak out on the forward for his actions, with Premier League mischief-maker Neal Maupay mocking Antony on Tuesday writing on X (formerly Twitter): 'Not even I would do this'.

Graeme Souness also tore into the £85million signing after the game, calling his antics 'naff'.

'Man United are a class act. But for a player to act like that it's naff, it's like you just don't do that as a Man United player,' he told talkSPORT. 'It wasn't Real Madrid you've just knocked out. It was Coventry, a team from the Championship.'

Following Sneijder's criticisms, another former Dutch footballer, Van Basten, has also hit out at Marcus Rashford for his flat performance against Coventry.

'I saw Rashford play against Coventry. What was this guy doing?' Van Basten told Ziggo.

'It was an unbelievable sight. Didn't make any runs, didn't try anything on the ball, passing every ball he received straight back. He looks like he is playing indoor football with his buddies.'

The England striker was sarcastically jeered by fans inside Wembley when he was substituted in the seventh minute of injury time with an apparent injury.

But perhaps most telling of his indifferent performance was the reaction of several Coventry players who, according to Manchester Evening News, claimed that Rashford could have 'decided the contest' but felt he had little impact for United.

This season, Rashford has largely underwhelmed for Man United, with the 26-year-old failing to match his 30-goal haul of the 2022-23 campaign, scoring just eight times across all competitions this season

Some have even questioned his commitment, especially after he missed training earlier in January, following a boozy night out in Northern Ireland

Despite that, the United forward admitted in February that he had made mistakes, but remained committed to the Red Devils.

'Listen, I'm not a perfect person,' Rashford wrote in the Players' Tribune. 'When I make a mistake, I'll be the first one to put my hand up and say I need to do better.

'But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that's when I have to speak up.

'It's like somebody questioning my entire identity and everything I stand for. I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a kid so I could wear this badge.'
