Getafe are reportedly negotiating with Manchester United over a potential second loan move for Mason Greenwood, but the Premier League giants would prefer selling him instead.

The forward joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan on Deadline Day last summer and has impressed on the pitch.

With 10 goals in 32 appearances, Greenwood also registered six assists for Getafe.

And now it has been reported that the Spanish side are keen to extend his stay for at least another season.

According to The Athletic, Getafe have opened talks with the Red Devils over the possibility of a new loan deal for Greenwood.

However, United would prefer to secure a permanent move for the academy graduate, who has attracted interested from a host of Spanish clubs, including Barcelona.

Greenwood has also attracted interest from Juventus, but The Athletic reported a loan deal will be considered if United aren't offered an 'acceptable fee' this summer.

With Greenwood's current deal expiring in 2025, the Red Devils could extend his contract by a further year as there remains an option for this in his contract.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 after being charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault causing bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges in February last year and announced the case had been discontinued.

Greenwood, who denied all the allegations, joined Getafe on loan in a controversial move in September after his parent club indicated he would 'continue his career away from Old Trafford'.

With regards to on the field matters, United have strongly suggested Greenwood would never play for them again.

However, speaking for the first time since his 25 per cent stake in Manchester United was ratified, Ratcliffe in February suggested the stance could change.

‘It’s a fresh decision,’ he said.

‘I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards.

'You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

'What we need to do when have issues like that is understand real effects not the hype then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values.

'That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it.’

Ratcliffe also told the BBC: 'We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.

'Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.'

United acted swiftly to suspend Greenwood on the day he was arrested in January 2022, just hours after deeply disturbing images and audio were posted online.

As reported by Mail Sport, the club were then surprised when the CPS dropped the charges a year later.

It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for Greenwood, with it unclear as to whether Man United could one day allow him to rejoin the squad.

For this summer, the report believes that, Erik ten Hag's side are looking to conclude a permanent transfer for their academy graduate.

Getafe will be hoping that they can beat their La Liga rivals to securing Greenwood's signature this summer.
