Chelsea left back Ben Chilwell is likely to remain at Chelsea beyond Friday's transfer deadline.

The 27-year-old has been banished to Chelsea's 'bomb' squad by Enzo Maresca, with the Italian manager admitting he will need to go move elsewhere for first team football.

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Chilwell, but Mail Sport understands the Red Devils are not pursuing a deal.

And Chilwell's wages are also set to prove a stumbling block for any potential last-minute loan deal.

Chilwell put pen to paper on a new contract until 2027 at Chelsea last April, with the club increasing his salary to over £200,000-a-week.

This reduces the number of clubs that could afford to sign Chilwell, meaning he is expected to stay at Chelsea for at least the first part of the season.

The 21-cap England international joined Chelsea for £50m from Leicester in 2020.

He started Chelsea's shock Champions League final win over Manchester City in his first season with the Blues, but has since struggled for form and fitness.

Chilwell was left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024 over the summer, despite first-choice left back Luke Shaw missing the majority of the tournament through injury.

He has now fallen out of favour at club level as well, with Maresca preferring Marc Cucurella as his starting left back instead.

Chilwell has been training away from the main squad with the likes of Raheem Sterling, who has been linked with a shock move to United this week as part of a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho.

But Chilwell may not get his own move away, with time running out for him to find a club willing to pay his lucrative wages.
