Cameras captured the moment Gary Neville fell victim to the curse of the commentator in Liverpool's dominant victory over Manchester United.

Liverpool wasted little time in seizing control of the action in Sunday's clash, and Luis Diaz capitalised on a mistake from Casemiro to put the Reds in front.

Another error from the Brazilian allowed Arne Slot's side to double their lead before the break, and the five-time Champions League winner was summarily hooked at half-time.

United desperately needed to find their footing after the restart, but things would ultimately only go from bad to worse against their bitterest of rivals.

As Jamie Carragher and Neville watched on from the gantry, the former United defender hailed Kobbie Mainoo's ability to remain cool under pressure early in the second half.

'Mainoo now is the deepest lying midfield player,' Neville said. 'He's fine when he receives it in tight areas - he was.'

Before Neville could finish his sentence the England international was bullied off the ball by Alexis Mac Allister, who found Dominik Szoboszlai to play in Mohamed Salah for Liverpool's third.

As Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury hailed the Egyptian's strike, Carragher could be seen barely containing his delight as he beamed from ear to ear.

Neville meanwhile sat back defeated, resting his head in his hand as the away end at Old Trafford erupted in celebration.

Despite there being more than half an hour remaining in Sunday's clash, United never looked like making their way back into the game and frustrated supporters departed the stadium in droves before the full-time whistle.

Erik ten Hag's side have now lost back-to-back Premier League games and the pressure on the Dutchman to deliver following significant investment has once again started to mount.

Speaking following the game Neville insisted that external factors have to be considered when assessing Ten Hag's position at the club.

'There is a feeling today of, are we going to go through the same thing again?' He continued.

'But I think it's a time for a bit of calm, it's an international break, which is probably well needed for United.

'Erik ten Hag is going to have to get the club into a position sort of challenging the Champions League towards Christmas, or else he's going to be in trouble. He knows that.

'He's been influenced to change his team, his staff. In the summer, he's brought two new coaches in, that is not always ideal as well.

'There's new messaging coming in, even though he's been here for two years. There's new technical directors, CEOs.

'There is a lot of change at the club. There are a lot of staff that have been here a long time that are leaving as well. There was going to be some pain along the way of actually interfering with the Glazer ownership.

'We're seeing that pain right here today. It's not going to change quickly.

'It's a sobering day for United, but one that I think just requires some calm, because we want to change of ownership, and there are some things happening, and we have to let it settle in.'
