Manchester United were reportedly aware of Leny Yoro's injury risk before he joined the club in this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils' medical scans had indicated a potential metatarsal issue - which turned out to be the injury the player suffered during United's pre-season tour in the US.

Two weeks after signing with his new team, the Frenchman fractured his left foot during a friendly game against Arsenal and had to be immediately taken off the field.

Fans spotted the player on crutches with his foot in a protective boot, followed by official confirmation that he would undergo surgery and be out for three months.

According to the Athletic, the Red Devils knew about the 18-year-old's potential issues, but their executives were determined to proceed with Yoro due to his status as one of the hottest prospects in European football.

However, the Red Devils' representatives proceeded with the signing regardless of the player's issues, considering him as a top player for the future

It resulted in the player fracturing the fifth metatarsal on his left foot and undergoing surgery

Amid competition with Real Madrid over the player's signature, United paid £52m for the Lille academy product, as they reportedly believed he would be one of their greatest players over the next decade.

However, Mail Sport previously reported that the Frenchman preferred to join the Galacticos, before he was threatened by his boyhood club that he would be sidelined for a year if he didn't agree to United's terms.

The Red Devils, particularly Erik ten Hag, were keen to sign at least two centre backs, holding discussions simultaneously with Matthijs de Ligt and Yoro.

Shortly after securing the Frenchman's signage, United rushed him into games, featuring the player in the starting lineup against Rangers.

However, as the reports state, the Red Devils were cautious with Yoro as they were aware of his injury risk, with the 18-year-old training in only 50 per cent of the sessions.

His next match against Arsenal turned into a source of frustration for United boss, Erik ten Hag, who previously claimed that his side were 'not ready' for the new Premier League campaign.

Ahead of today's game against Fulham at Old Trafford, the Dutchman highlighted his concerns about the squad depth - with many players missing several pre-season training sessions due to international tournaments or physical problems.

'It's very complicated,' the Dutchman said.

'[We had] the USA tour squad and then we added the players at Euros and Copa America and now new signings and we have to make a team from it.'

'Issues are there,' Ten Hag explained. 'But it's not about the players who are not available. Same as last season it's about the players who are available.

Given the injuries in the defensive line, both newcomers Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are expected to feature in today's game against Fulham

It is reported that Manchester United will not rush Yoro this time, instead giving him the necessary time for full rehabilitation, while their latest £38.5m signing, de Ligt, is seen as the leading force in the defensive line.

Both de Ligt and his former Bayern Munich team-mate Noussair Mazraoui are expected to feature in today's game against Fulham.
