While most of Real Madrid's starting 11 appears to be in place with the like of Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior all guaranteed to start, the battle between Fede Valverde and Rodrygo Goes is a dilemma that manager Carlo Ancelotti will have to solve.

Against Scottish side Celtic, the coach opted for Valverde, who gives the midfield more depth when it comes to defending while also enriching the creative part of the team's attack.

In addition, his ability to get into the opponents' box offers a threat, despite playing in a position that is relatively new to him. Following his goal against Celta Vigo, assists against Real Betis and Celtic have capped what has been an extremely good run of form.

With Rodrygo, as Ancelotti said after the match against Celta Vigo, Real Madrid have "something else".

The Brazilian's finesse and excellent dribbling, combined with his penchant for crossing and shooting, adds to the threat that Vinicius poses on the other flank. The right wing is not Rodrygo's preferred side, but his ability to navigate in tight spaces provides Real Madrid with a much needed impetus to unlock tight defences.

Valverde and Rodrygo, are two players that bring versatility to Real Madrid's 4-3-3 formation. But this season the team veers more towards a 4-4-2 when defending especially when the Uruguayan is picked.

Real Madrid's squad depth is one their key strengths this year. Apart from the regular starters, the presence of versatile players such as Lucas Vazquez, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez, Eduardo Camavinga, Marco Asensio and even Eden Hazard, allows Ancelotti the freedom to play with his pieces and change his style based on the opponent in front of them.

The six victories achieved already this season only serve to underline this point.
