Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has called for Spain to include Sergio Ramos in its World Cup squad.

Luis Enrique announces his 26-man squad on November 14 and Ramos is not expected to be included but he was part of the coach’s 55-strong long list handed to FIFA this week.

‘Ramos for his experience and his quality has to go to the World Cup without doubt,’ said Ancelotti who coached the player in his first spell as Madrid manager. ‘He is still one of the best defenders in the world.’

With the World Cup looming large on the horizon Ancelotti’s Madrid side showed no signs of slowing up with a 5-1 win over Celtic.

It assured them top place and left Liverpool as one of their potential rivals in the last-16.

Ancelotti praised his players for the goal-fest and said he believed they were now capable of playing without Karim Benzema who missed the game rested.

‘We are managing to substitute Benzema very well,’ said Ancelotti. ‘The players now have more confidence, Valverde in particular, has made a radical change in terms of goals scored. Vinicius moves better without the ball.

‘These players still have the possibility of getting better.’

Of Valverde, who now has now scored eight from midfield this season, Ancelotti added: ‘I don't know how many goals Valverde can score, he has an impressive quality in shooting. He can score many more.’

Five of the Madrid man's eight goals have come from outside the area.
