Real Madrid departed Bilbao after grabbing a 2-0 win that offered them more than three points because of Athletic Club's quality and their struggles in previous games.
Carlo Ancelotti has given more playing to players such as Dani Ceballos, Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez, all of whom have demonstrated that he can count on them.
However, he knows he has to deal with a growing issue, as Vinicius Junior has been at the receiving end of complaints from opposition fans wherever he plays away from home.
This is something that has consequences on his performance, as it has already happened in Vallecas, Villarreal, Valladolid and Bilbao. Fans express their unease even before the games, when his name is announced.
There are times where he manages to deal with the pressure, something that happened in Copa del Rey game against Villarreal, when he participated in all of Real Madrid's three goals.
Yet, there are matches where it is obvious that he has been affected by the uproar from the stands.
The San Mames duel was a clear example, as he didn't stand out in his game, but he will be remembered for his arguments with Athletic players.
It is a problem that Carlo Ancelotti is aware of and the Italian coach does not hide that it is an issue that is affecting his player.
"Everyone puts pressure on him: fans, rivals, referees," Ancelotti told the press.
"The truth is that I don't know why that happens, because he is dedicated to playing. It affects him, but he is young and I'm sure he will improve in this aspect.
"He is a very sensitive boy and I talk to him to keep him focused. We want him to be more respected."
Work for Ancelotti
The Italian tactician has detected the problem, as he sees that it affects his team's performance. He knows that he should help Vinicius control his emotions.
That is why Ancelotti does not stop to be attentive to what his player does during the game, as he wants to protect him. He is willing to help him concentrate on what is happening on the pitch and forget about the stands, rivals and referees.
Vinicius will receive a warm welcome by fans at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday. However, their next away game is at the Estadio Son Moix against Real Mallorca, whose player Antonio Raillo blasted Vinicius for his behavior back in September.
Real Madrid are aware that this problem has no solution as far as the rival fans are concerned. They understand that the referees have to protect Vinicius more and that the Brazilian must learn to compete in this hostile context created by rivals and stands.
Because Ancelotti needs him to be focused on his game and shine as he did last season. This year, Vinicius has 11 goals, but he has not scored in LaLiga Santander since the match against Girona on October 30.
