Kylian Mbappe has chosen to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, according to reports.

It comes amid a long and drawn-out saga between the French World Cup winner and the Spanish club, that has seen the PSG star linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes for nearly four years

With his contract set to expire with the Ligue 1 outfit in the summer, Le Parisien report that Mbappe 'has decided to leave Ligue 1 at the end of the season and join the biggest club in the world [Real Madrid], which has always been waiting for him.'

The outlet states that 'optimism reigns in Madrid' and that 'negotiations are being carried out for the biggest locker room contract' for the 25-year-old winger.

Mbappe does have an option to extend his contract at PSG by another year, a deal that would see him earn £60million in the next 12 months. That would also prevent PSG from losing him on a free transfer after the club had initially signed him for £153m in 2018 from Monaco.

The forward starred for PSG on Friday night after they defeated Strasbourg 2-1 at the Stade de la Meinau. Mbappe had missed a penalty early on in the match, but responded to put the Ligue 1 champions 1-0 up, netting his 20th goal of the league season. He also provided an assist for Marco Asensio who scored the winner.

PSG had reportedly even offered the 25-year-old a 'never-seen-before seen £86m-per-year contract' to snub Madrid and commit his future to the French club.

Last summer, Madrid were readying an offer of around £103m to sign the PSG superstar, but in a bid to hang on to Mbappe, PSG slapped a world record £213m price tag on the winger.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi also openly stated that he wanted the winger to stay.

He told RMC: ‘Look, I’m not hiding anything.

‘For sure I want Mbappe to stay. For me he is the best in the world and for me the best club for Kylian is Paris.'

Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal also made an attempt to sign him, offering Mbappe a £173.2m-per-year deal to move to the Middle East.

It seems, though, that Real is too much of an enticing option for Mbappe, despite other reports claiming he could likely sign for a lower wage than what he currently pockets with PSG.

Equally, winning both individual and team honours is another appeal for the forward, who believes his best chance of winning the Champions League could be with Real Madrid.

It was reported at the end of January that Mbappe was close to revealing his future plans after he had agreed a contract extension back in May 2022.

After much back-and-forth between Mbappe and Real Madrid, speculation over a potential move to Madrid has intensified in recent weeks

He has been free to negotiate with other clubs since January 1 after entering the final six months of his PSG contract.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the forward, with Le Parisien claiming that 'Mbappe would be open to joining the Merseyside club.'

Things have also taken a turn recently behind the scenes, with his mother Fayza Lamari becoming his agent once again after newspapers in Spain had reported late last year that she had to stop representing her son because of FIFA's regulations on agents.

While those rules have subsequently been 'relaxed' Lamari recently stepped back into her position as his agent and will likely play a huge role in the next step of his footballing journey. She is well known for playing hard ball when it comes to business, with Lamari having also previously played hardball with her son over his wages.

For Mbappe, it seems his time at PSG has been coming to an end for a while with his relationship with PSG souring in the past few years. Despite going on to help lead the Qatar-owned club to several league titles, scoring 241 times in 288 appearances across all competitions, both parties have butted heads on several occasions in the past, mostly due to his stubbornness not to sign a new contract.

Back in August, he was banished to the PSG B team after a stand-off arose between him and the Ligue 1 Champions after he refused to sign a new contract at the club. Claims were made that he told members of the reserve side that they were better than some players in the senior squad.

Mbappe meanwhile also received an eye-watering offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal last year

He was also barred from PSG's summer tour of Japan, a trip he was meant to be front and centre for, with the club dropping him from all advertising.

It came amid his row with the club over a contract renewal, with Mbappe writing to PSG to state that he would not be renewing his deal with the club.

Mail Sport had also seen a copy of correspondence between both parties, with the club accusing Mbappe of inflicting 'a lasting paralysis on the club' while they also wrote 'years of unprecedented goodwill, commitment and investment' should lead him to 'think about the future of the club and its fans'.

Mbappe had also blasted the club after they used his image in an advertising campaign for season tickets back in 2023, writing 'It's not Kylian-Saint Germain'.

Despite that, he returned to action for the club at the start of the season, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Toulouse before jumping over an advertising board and appearing to shout 'I am staying!'

Yet it appears his time with the Parisians could come to an end at the end of the season. Should he join Real Madrid, he'll be one of several superstars playing at the club, including Jude Bellingham, who signed last summer for £113m, and Vinicius Jnr.
