Karim Benzema made history for Real Madrid on Saturday night as he scored his 300th goal for the club in their LaLiga Santander clash against Valencia at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The goal was Benzema's 19th in 26 appearances against Los Che, too, and one that further cemented his name in the list of Real Madrid legends after 13 seasons with the club. In those 13 seasons, he breached the 30-goal barrier twice, and he is on track to do so for the third time this term and beat his best scoring season of 2011/12, when he scored 32 times.
Having hit 300 goals, Benzema is continuing to close the gap on those ahead of him in the club's scoring charts. As things stand, he's just eight goals shy of sharing a podium place with Alfredo Di Stefano's 308 goals, but has a little further to go to match Raul Gonzalez's 323. Cristiano Ronaldo is clear in front with 451 goals for Real Madrid.
A record century
Benzema needed five years and five months to rack up his first century of goals for Real Madrid, finally doing so on January 18, 2014, having debuted on August 29, 2009. His second hundred came in four years and 10 months on November 7, 2018, and his latest hundred came in a record-breaking three years and two months.
In all, the No.9 has 402 career goals, netting 66 with Lyon and 36 with France. Only Thierry Henry has more goals than him as a Frenchman, having bagged 411.
At 34, Benzema is only going to keep adding to his numbers. He already has 21 goals this season, a figure he didn't reach until March 16 last term.
