Villarreal 2-1 Real Madrid: Setien gets better of Ancelotti at El Madrigal

Madrid's title hopes suffered a setback at Villarreal in LaLiga on Saturday

Yeremy Pino and Gerard Moreno struck as Villarreal beat Real Madrid 2-1 at El Madrigal on Saturday to put a dent in Carlo Ancelotti's side's title hopes.

Pino's 47th minute opener was cancelled out by Karim Benzema's penalty but Moreno struck from the penalty spot to earn all three points for Villarreal. 

It was just Madrid's second loss in LaLiga this season, following their surprise 3-2 reverse at Rayo Vallecano just before the World Cup break. 

Quique Setien's side climb to fifth in league ahead of Sunday's games, while Madrid remain second, level on points with leaders Barcelona. 

Barca could move three points clear on Sunday when they face a difficult trip to the Spanish capital to take on Atletico Madrid. 

Madrid now turn their attention to the Spanish Supercopa, with a game against Valencia to come in the semifinal in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The winners of that tie will play either Barcelona or Real Betis in the final next Sunday.
