Mbappe could ask to leave PSG if they lose to Bayern Munich... to go to Real Madrid?

On Tuesday, February 14, Paris Saint-Germain take on Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League. Kylian Mbappe will miss that first leg with injury, but his future could still be on the line.

The French forward is hoping to make the return leg on March 8 of what is a massive tie for so many reasons. If the German champions knock out the French champions, Mbappe could ask to leave the club in the summer.

Another Champions League failure would be straw that breaks the camel's back for the 24-year-old and could push him towards the exit door.

What's not certain is how willing president Nasser Al-Khelaifi would be to hold that door open for him.

No easy exit

Mbappe knows all too well that the Parisian club will not make things easy for him if he asks to leave. He's France's biggest star and keeping him in the domestic league is a powerful message for PSG and French football.

However, when the summer comes around, Mbappe will have just one year left on his current PSG deal. That means that if both sides stand firm, the player would be free to leave on a free the following summer.

In January 2024, if he remains at PSG but hasn't signed a contract extension, he could agree a pre-contract with Real Madrid with a view to joining in the summer.

Los Blancos' admiration of Mbappe is no secret and he has shown his interest in moving to the Spanish capital in the past.

For some months now, there have been rumours of Mbappe's discontent at PSG.

Club directors have been bending over backwards to try to convince him to sign an extension, but it is becoming clearer that he sees his future elsewhere.
