ALVISE CAGNAZZO: Napoli are the ONLY Italian team with a chance of winning the Champions League... AC and Inter Milan lack the ambition, but there are hopes of a dream final between Luciano Spalletti's side and Real Madrid

Of the three Italian teams still left in this season's Champions League, only Napoli has the ambition, enthusiasm and technical strength to win the Champions League.

In Italy, the dream is to attend a final between Napoli and Real Madrid, the two teams that represent modern football and glorious historic football respectively.

Luciano Spalletti is the Tuscan footballing prophet with a Dutch philosophy while Carlo Ancelotti is the greatest Italian coach in the history of the sport who is leading Real Madrid brilliantly in the search for yet more European success.

Napoli is the club that has the most chance not only of reaching the final but even of winning the competition it has never conquered thanks to a magic formula of tactical ideas, players and luck that is pushing Spalletti's men to achieve extraordinary results.

AC Milan and Inter are considered excellent participants in the European competition but they don't even have a 10 per cent chance of winning the Champions League.

Napoli have their best chance of winning the Champions League for the first time ever

AC Milan and Inter Milan lack the technical or tactical structure to win the competition

The Italian duels on the European draw could allow a double derby on the way to Istanbul before the awaited final, but the teams led by Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi do not seem to have the technical and tactical structure to overcome Napoli and Benfica.

The growth of Italian football in August 2022 was unexpected given the economic problems that overwhelmed the top clubs of Serie A and the great technical revolutions of Napoli.

Like a snake, Luciano Spalletti's team shed its skin by letting go of Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz and David Ospina - recreating a younger and more motivated group that today has many chances of winning the Champions League.

And below, Sportsmail's Alvise Cagnazzo gives his verdict on who is the most important player for the three Italian teams left in the competition.

KHVICHA KVARATSKHELIA - NAPOLI

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Napoli will be moving on before too long if he keeps up his form, and his bright future will likely be far from Italy but visible for many years.

'Kvaradona' is set to inherit the Ballon d'Or from Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo, his childhood idols in poverty-stricken Georgia, which dreams of having a top player capable of illuminating the footballing history of the eastern European country.

His statistical numbers are impressive: 25 matches, 12 goals and 10 assists in Serie A in his debut season after years spent on the periphery of European football.

A city's dreams of glory pass as fast as arrows between its feet and Kvara could rewrite the history of Napoli in Europe by dragging the team to the semi-finals.

SANDRO TONALI - AC MILAN

Sandro Tonali is today the best Italian midfielder. The identity crisis of Nicolo Barella and the injuries of Lorenzo Pellegrini have favoured the rise of the boy who dreamed of winning the Champions League with AC Milan and who today plays as a starter for his favorite team with Gennaro Gattuso' No 8 sewn on his shoulders.

He is the most formidable player in the Rossoneri team because he is the midfielder capable of scoring decisive and unexpected goals in the most delicate moments of the season.

The Milan Scudetto bears his signature, the great relaunch of the Italian national team also depends on his growth and Tonali could become the protagonist of Milan in the big match against Napoli.

LAUTARO MARTINEZ - INTER MILAN

Right now Lautaro Martinez is the worst player in Inter's attack. In the decisive moment of the season he disappeared from the radar and in the last few games he missed sensational chances, proving that he is not 100 per cent fit.

His 29 games, 14 goals and three assists are statistically a magnificent haul for the striker but the Argentine, after giving an exceptional performance in the derby in Serie A, suffered a collapse in performance and began to attract boos from his fans.

'El Toro' is mentally drained and physically out of shape and after a great start to 2023 he has started to lose strength and concentration. His performances have dropped which have put the team in difficulty.

Inter Milan will hope Lautaro Martinez can rediscover his form in the Champions League

The Juventus problem

Italy's progress in Europe this year affects the upcoming negotiations for TV rights but must also take Juventus into account.

The most popular team in Italy affects a very important slice of the market and is the source of many television subscriptions.

At the moment in Italy a media campaign is underway in contrast with the decisions of the federation and the sports courts which risks creating a media short-circuit.

Hundreds of thousands of Juventus fans are in fact cancelling their pay TV subscriptions due to the controversy over the decisions that penalised the team by 15 points in the Serie A standings.

This noisy battle risks lowering the offer on television rights, creating a big problem for the Italian football system. Juventus is a beacon of economic possibilities and the approximately 10 million fans of the Old Lady essentially have the power to indirectly direct television ratings.

Juventus, as well as how the Italian teams fare in the Champions League, will have a say on upcoming negotiations for TV rights
