Rio Ferdinand congratulates new Man United signing Leny Yoro in enthusiastic video message after sealing £52m move... before offering the 18-year-old some key advice

Rio Ferdinand sent Manchester United's newest recruit, Leny Yoro, a personal video message, before offering him some advice on how to succeed at Old Trafford.

On Thursday night, United confirmed the £52million signing of the 18-year-old French star from Lille.

United's offer of £42m plus £10m in add-ons for the defender was accepted last week, but there were concerns that Yoro's preference was to join Real Madrid. However, United have moved swiftly to get the deal done and are finalising personal terms over a five-year contract with the option of a 12-month extension.

After undergoing a photoshoot in United kit, Yoro was given a surprise by the club's media team after a special message was recorded by former United centre back Ferdinand.

'Welcome to Manchester United man!' Ferdinand began.

Rio Ferdinand, who made a personal plea to the player this month, sent a video message

'I wish you all the best. I know you're going to work hard, and that's the secret man. Work hard, work hard. Work, work, work, on all parts of your game.

'You've got all the potential, you've got all the tools man. You've got everything there ready to rock and roll, to go and make a big impact at this club.

'It's the best club in the world. It's a beautiful place to be, go and enjoy yourself man, alright. I'll see you soon, good luck. Let's go, let's go, let's go! Leny, Leny, Leny!'

Earlier this month, Ferdinand made a personal plea to Yoro, urging him to join Manchester United.

Ferdinand loves Yoro's game and has compared him to Arsenal's William Saliba.

'If you're looking Leny Yoro, please accept and come to Man United, please,' Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast.

'Man United, please, make the offer and please accept because this kid, I think his ceiling is as high as anybody right now, including Saliba.'

Ferdinand continued to compare Yoro to Saliba, saying: 'Physically, he's not as developed or formidable, but he's a different kind of central defender.

'He's quick, and he tries to nibble to get in front, he can play, he's long, tall, and mobile.'

The former Manchester United centre back also offered some advice to the 18-year-old

Man United completed the £52million signing of highly-rated Lille defender Yoro on Thursday

It was a real coup for United amid interest in him from Real Madrid, Liverpool and PSG

The announcement from United on Thursday evening is subject to registration, but Yoro has signed a contract which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2029.

'Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour,' Yoro said upon completion of the deal.

'Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.

'I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I cannot wait to get started.'

He becomes United's second signing of the summer after Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee moved to Old Trafford for £36.5m.
