Olivier Roux's umpteenth barbarity: The 18-year-old, 2.36m giant

He never ceases to amaze despite having become a recognisable face in basketball. Olivier Rioux was, at one time, the tallest teenager in the world - a Guinness World Record holder - when he stood 2.26m at the age of 15. He caught the attention of everyone, including Real Madrid, with whom he even had a trial, but he did not stay in their youth system. He made the leap to American college basketball with the powerful Florida Gators, and the Canadian never fails to impress.

Rioux did not stop growing. He is now 18 years old and stands 2.36 meters tall. His size is so huge that everything is too small for him, even the hoop, as shown in his latest viral image during a warm-up. Rioux goes on tiptoe and already reaches the board with the ball, and all the movements near the hoop are easy for him.

However, he still has to prove himself. This season he has become a redshirt player, one of those who is part of the squad but does not play games. "We should make that clear. I've honestly put him in a tough situation. He's sitting in games and people are yelling at him to come out. But that's not our plan," said Todd Golden, his coach. Rioux is training with his teammates this year and improving, and will return in 2025 as a freshman.

"He's a great kid and he likes to do what's best for others. He's easy to coach. It's his decision, and it's something our program talked to him, his family, parents and coaches about," his coach confessed. Rioux is viral... and he hasn't even played yet.

His last real matches were at the FIBA Americas in the U18 category with the Canadian national team last March. He played six games and averaged 4.5 points with 4.5 rebounds
