Eduardo Camavinga spoke to ESPN from France's training camp in the United States. The Real Madrid midfielder spoke about the team's form, Arbeloa's role and Vinicius' image.
"Arbeloa has the same spirit as Ancelotti. He gives us a lot of freedom and talks to the player," he explained. The Frenchman also detailed an unusual scene in the team's day-to-day life. "Sometimes he comes with gifts after training... donuts, Speculoos, Oreo," he said. Camavinga relates this management to performance. "These kind of players just need to be made happy. When you're happy, your feet do what they want."
About Vinicius, he was direct. "People don't realise. He's a very nice person," the Frenchman believes his public image does not reflect reality. "He's very emotional. People see when he screams and they think it's a problem, but they don't know him." And he added an internal detail. "He always helps the young players. When a new player comes in, he's the first to come over," he said. He also waded into the debate about his celebrations. "In Europe they don't understand that. In Brazil or in the United States it is normal. It's football, it's a game."
The void of some legends
About Madrid's season, he did not hide the irregular start. "We started a bit slow, but now we're getting better." And he explained the change in midfield. "We're not like Kroos, Modric or Casemiro. We have more power and speed. Football has changed too," he said.
The Frenchman acknowledged that the team is still a work in progress. "A lot of players have left and others have arrived. We have to build a new team," he said. In the Champions League, he admitted that the team responds differently. "I don't know what happens. We hear the music and something changes," he said. He did identify the learning from the clash with City. "We understood that we could defend together, suffer and then attack to kill the opponent." He repeated this concept when talking about the duels. "If I have to kill, I kill. It's him or me," he said.
Camavinga insisted on the demands of the club. "At Real Madrid you have to win everything. It's the minimum," he said, explaining how he copes with the pressure. "When I don't have pressure, it's weird." He also referred to the atmosphere in the dressing room. "The spirit is good. We are young and we understand each other easily," he said, pointing to it as the key to competing. "When the team is in good spirits, everything is easier on the pitch." On his personal situation, he was clear. "I want to be more consistent, to play more," he said.
