Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has decided to end the conservative treatment he was undergoing to recover from a meniscus injury in his right knee and undergo surgery.

This decision puts at risk his presence with the French national team at the World Cup in Qatar, to be held in November and December this year.

This was revealed by Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri at a press conference ahead of the Champions League clash with PSG.

"This morning he trained, then stopped and decided to have surgery. I reckon we'll have him back in January, we have to be realistic," he said.

"Whether or not he plays in the World Cup is not my problem."

After testing himself for two days on the training ground, Pogba has decided to undergo surgery. In fact, according to Italian media reports, in the absence of official confirmation from the club, the Frenchman will undergo surgery on the meniscus in his right knee on Monday evening.

The injury sidelined the former Manchester United man at the end of July and he will be out for at least six weeks.

Allegri faces PSG without Angel Di Maria, who is still struggling with an adductor injury.

The coach does not see his side as favourites against the Parisians.

"We are facing an opponent who are among the strongest in Europe, this year they are my favourites to win," he said.
