Italian giants Juventus have been dealt a blow as the Federal Court of Appeals handed them a 15-point sanction regarding the 'pluzvalenza' case regarding capital gains.
The Italian Football Federation Prosecutor's Office had asked for nine penalty points for the 'bianconero' team for the 'pluzvalenza' case, after the case was reopened, but the sanction of the Federal Court of Appeals has gone even further.
In any case, the club will now try to appeal to the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
Out of Europe
"Juventus is sanctioned with 15 penalty points to be served in the current football season," read the FIGC's official statement.
Without those points, Juventus would be left with 22 points, tied in mid-table with Bologna and Empoli, outside the qualifying places for European competitions, but with a 13-point cushion over relegation.
Managerial sanctions
In addition to the 15 points penalty in the championship, the Federal Court of Appeal also imposed heavy sanctions on Juventus' directors.
Sanctions included a two-and-a-half year ban for Fabio Paratici, who has since joined Tottenham, as well as two years for Maurizio Arrivabene and Andrea Agnelli, who is one of the leaders of the Super League movement alongside Florentino Perez.
Additionally, Juventus' current Sporting Director, Federico Cherubini, faces a ban of one year and four months and Pavel Nedved will be suspended for eight months.
Friday saw the case involving Juventus and eight other clubs heard before the Federal Court of Appeal.
A total of 52 directors or former directors are involved in the investigation, including the above mentioned, featuring Pavel Nedved and Maurizio Arrivabene, formerly of Ferrari and now at Juventus.
Now up to clubs
Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine was in charge of proceeding with the request for sanctions for the clubs and individuals involved, which is when the request for sanctions became known.
Now the case will pass to the defence of the clubs and the Tribunal has to decide whether to admit the revocation or to definitively close this chapter in the 'plusvalenza' case with a decision expected in the next few hours.
